  1. Neat story, Jason. I asked about marbles at some of the sales and one of the sellers did have marbles at home -- but not selling -- she had some sulphides, so I got to talk about 'em a little and share some factoids even if I didn't get to see 'em. Cool, John! (Is she ebaying the watch? Or happy to now have a $1000 watch of her own?)
  2. just think how great corks would look turning around in that
  3. I haven't found any marbles yet. I got this pretty pair of vaseline glass plates though.
  4. Really need to know the size. If it's a large marble, my answer above will change.
  5. More clear version of the above answer: This is a West Virginia swirl. That means it's made by one of the dozen or more marble companies operating in West Virginia in the 1930's through 1950's. It's hard to narrow down which of the swirl companies could have made it.
  6. Standard size? I once collected all the black-ish base with white-ish ribbon WV swirl images I could find. Hoping I'd learn to tell which is which based on the subtle tints or the ribbons shapes. I never got a good handle on it. But with the purple tint maybe someone else can narrow it down.
  7. Agree. Glass in spite of the appearance -- it was once smooth and shiny. From roughly 1930.
  8. I understand the doubt. I'd say good chance not American.
  9. That's a lot of variety of lusciousness. Wide variety of color combos.
  10. Beautiful. Do you live near there? Will you be able to go back in the heat of the summer? What a great escape.
  11. accidental backyard art -- digging the tomato cages -- the view from my kitchen window
  12. Owls and marbles ... two great tastes that taste great together.
