  1. I'm puttering around my newspaper archives and seeing again how in the late 30's in Wisconsin at least, people seemed to think the Popeye Marble Set was pretty hot stuff. It made it to prize lists and wish lists. So, I don't know if the name was all about the box -- and the box being special all by itself -- or if the name made it to the marbles inside also. (Of course we know that sometimes the marbles inside were what we call Popeyes, and sometimes the marbles inside were oxbloods.)
  2. Hope everyone is feeling better. Thanks for the notice.
  3. I remember Galen posted a two-color slag before, but I can't remember which country it came from.
  4. An antique game piece. .... I might recognize it. Gonna move the thread to the main chat area to get more eyes on it.
  5. I have seen a few highly asymmetric ones, with most/all the ribbons seeming to be crowded on one side. Some which ... if I recall correctly ... couldn't be explained just by a ribbon being so far down on the end of one side that it appeared to be on the other side.
  6. And now even more of other favorite styles. No pictures. I'm just celebrating finding some treasures. These are going straight to the new house. I have a marble room now. Hopefully I won't lose them again!
  7. *happy dance* I have to expand my keeper case again. I was sure I had a lot of these, but then when I hardly found any, I wondered if I had accidentally labeled them all "cullet" and sold them all. I was resigned to just having a few of most of them, and only one deformed version of the clear with the lutz swirled inside ... and suddenly while I'm moving I find ..... drum roll please ...... Ta da! I has a happy!
  8. Thanks for sharing these specials ones.

    Moving ....

Thank you. We took one small load over to the new house already. We're close enough to do it by carload for awhile. I think one more load after Survivor tonight. And ohmigosh, I'm finding more marbles! Nice ones. Ones I thought I only had a few of, and I was sad I had so few of them! And now I have a whole lot more. This is going to be more fun than I thought.

    Moving ....

Papers signed. Moving now. Excited! First time as homeowners. SOOOOOO excited. Not sure when we turn off this internet account and set up a new one. And redo all the computer connections. Not looking forward to that change. Don't want to cut the cord.
  11. Pretty sure that's a yes to oxblood. Nice. Will wait for help with the run ID.
  12. I want all of these. I'll send you guys my new address as soon as I move.
  13. Oooh. I don't remember seeing that before. Maybe have but neat to see it now. Nice illustrations.
  14. With four sorta wavy vanes like you're showing and glass that clear, it's going to be American-made. After that it gets complicated enough that you might be sorry you asked! I'm not quite as up-to-speed as I used to be on Cat's Eyes. But with the four vanes in that particular shape, I'm going to say most likely Marble King, with some possibility of Bogard or Heaton. Bogard Cat's Eyes have been known for bubbles. Could be as early as the 1950's. However, Marble King is still making Cat's Eyes. I'm not sure when Bogard stopped making them. The most modern Marble Kings can look a little different. Here are some modern ones: http://www.marblekingusa.com/cat-s-eye-marbles.html Here are some Bogard bags: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/22188-heatonbogard-cats-range-of-variation/#comment-197764 Note: Being in a Bogard bag doesn't always mean Bogard made them. If I remember correctly, Bogard got some Cat's Eyes from Marble King when they were running short and had orders to fill. Also, Bogard bags could have Heatons in them. (Mr. Bogard bought the company from the Heatons, so there's some continuity there.)
  15. Hey, Soup, this is up your alley.
