  1. Are you sure? That looks like red glass washing over the edge of the white in this view. (The credit for the bump goes to the fact that I was looking at this thread wondering if it might contain something similar to what Bill posted here: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/20457-help-please ) (help please )
  2. Say it ain't so! (No offense to John. )

  4. Yeah. A big difference from the last time I saw it listed. I put it on my watchlist. Will be interesting to see where that one goes.
  5. Okay, now that's weird. They really kinda could sorta look like sky now that you mention it.
  6. So those are my guesses for this initial group. If you have the other marbles in a central location, maybe you could take a picture of the whole group and we could get an idea of whether it's all newer or a mix of old and new. p.s., I'm going to move this thread to the main chat area so that more people familiar with contemps might see it ...
  7. This one is a little different. It has a bit of a look of a slag (a type of vintage marble). I'm still going to guess contemporary but the simplicity of the style is intriguing.
  8. I don't have a guess for the maker of this one but it definitely looks contemporary to me.
  9. It looks like you might have inherited a contemporary collection. "Contemporary" is a name given to art glass marbles made in the last 40 or so years. (I think I have that number roughly right but maybe someone else will correct me.) I'm not an expert. The name which comes to mind for me with this one is a Snakeskin made by someone name Gibson. Hopefully someone else will come in and confirm or correct.
  10. Hmmmm. Still wish I could see more. This pic is only 62 Kb. The size limit is supposed to be somewhere around 450 kb. Well, okay, let's see. The green one looks like it could be a modern machine-made. (Maybe made in the last 20 years in Mexico.) The middle one could possibly be a a modern one which was made by hand -- if it is glass. For the brownish one on the right I think I see some circular motion which is interesting, but I can't see enough to make a guess. Maybe more views might help. (Also, I better double check to see if this one is glass, as opposed to stone.)
  11. Hello. Welcome. That photo is a little small. The marbles look interesting. A bigger photo could help a lot. p.s. Adding a ruler to the photo could also help so we can see how close to 2 inches.

    1945

George has spoiled me soooooo bad. He sent me this 1945 Science and Mechanics, with the Ravenswood article with so much detail in it -- Glass Marbles by the Million, by Bill Random -- and I put the magazine away for "later" before I recognized its significance. Luckily later came today. Here's the text of the article: http://mm.bglances.com/1-06-05-00%20Ravenswood%20Glass%20Novelty%20Works.htm

I hadn't noticed that. Who do we know who did three marbles to a box? That could be Japanese or Alley, right?

California Agates and Picture Marbles still available.
  15. Was looking for a particular ad from 1933 and found this pic from Charles along the way. What do you think the Blood Agate shooters were? http://marbleconnection.com/topic/16542-sell-those-magizines-boys
