  1. Interesting. Here's the full ad that was clipped from. It shows two different bags with a waist up character. [insert intelligent comments here when/if I can think of any] edit: I've never paid much attention to bag styles, only the marbles. Entering watch and learn mode.
  2. My principle concern at this moment is that Ron not feel intimidated. He's a new member to this board. I want him to feel welcome. Other members are long time participants in the greater marble community - much longer than I - so I'm a little intimidated myself by some of the give and take and undercurrents. ( : Thus, I have locked the thread for the time being and am forwarding the link to Lou for consideration.
  3. Why does he need to? He put a reserve on it. If no one meets it, no sale. If someone does meet it, then hopefully he'll honor the sale. He has no other obligation. That's how auctions with reserves work. No foul has been committed. Edit to add: oh my gosh, if anyone is including that auction as part of their Christmas budget then wow. Doesn't seem prudent. Christmas Holiday Hug for David. And Edith.
  4. Here's a 1936 ad. Hard to be sure with the black and white but might those be silver oxbloods? p.s. I'm pretty sure others will vouch for finding that style in popeye boxes. I think they came mostly in yellow boxes. iiuc.
  5. p.s. Ron said he was willing to let people him, so I don't suppose he needs me stepping in. I am just a little confused to see you seem to accuse him of something which he already confessed to, as if there were more he needed to "come clean" about.
  6. Ron wrote: David wrote: David, Ron has already "ponied up". Calling his auction a "sham" now is restating in a rather harsh way what Ron has already explained to us. There seems no malice in the event. Ron doesn't owe Facebook posters or eBayers anything other than to follow through with the sale if someone does meet the reserve. He paid $55 for the listing. I don't see anything wrong with him letting it ride. I guess if he gets the feeling that the marble collectors of the world will somehow unite and hold this against him forever he might decide to pull it. My thought though is that he got our attention in a very effective way and I can hardly wait to see more of his marbles when he has time to share them with us. Oh and if someone did offer him $750,000 then wow. What a delicious dilemma to have that kind of money to restart ones collection ... or pay off a mortgage ... or whatever.
  7. Yes, BOTH. It's definitely a one of a kind. I have three of them.

  9. Definitely more than 3. But not too many or they wouldn't be separate flame points anymore. Unless we had a theoretical marble, in which case we could have infinitely many, even uncountably many, true flame points though they wouldn't be visible to the naked eye. thank you, thank you very much.
  10. Oh yeah! wow, that choked me up just a little.
  11. Wow. Look at the birthdays at the bottom of the homepage. Is three the record for one day? Happy Birthday to you Mike ... & to Selbram ... & to Keltik if you chance to visit the board.
  12. Hello Ron. Welcome. You sure know how to get someone's attention.
  13. Just joshin', David .... but it LOOKS pretty flamey to me! :)
  14. The colors seem to have run out earlier than usual on Mike's. Also, more conspicuously uneven. Yes, a little like flames randomly spitting. (:
  15. Those are wild, Chuck. Yours aren't too shabby either, Bill.
  16. Will await response with curiosity. I don't know a safe way to do it. (will also move this to the main forum for now, leaving a link in Restoration so I can pull it back after it has run its course)
  17. That's a great vid. Creative people there. Here's another pretty good one. PG-13 for language.
  18. Happy Birthday Griff. May your bait stay warm.
  19. That's an awesome photo. I dreamt last night that I found some nice Akro oxbloods out in the yard. But they were Ann's.
  20. lol. I figured that's what it was. But that's out of my area of confidence. So you can see inside it?
  21. Gary, I'm confused. Are you talking about swirls or not? There are more than 3 companies to consider for fiery translucent mibs. There are at least 5 that I know of, and I'm fairly sure there are more. If you are speaking of swirls then some of the makers to consider when you have fiery translucent marbles are Christensen and Champion. I suspect there are others. If you are speaking of fiery translucent marbles with seams, then SOME of the makers to consider are Akro, Pelter and Marble King. And I suspect there are others. I thought you were talking about swirls, so I stressed the Champion possibility. However, with your last post you have me pretty thoroughly confused, so I guess I'll take a break now.
  22. If by CAC, you mean Christensen, then no, not all fiery translucent swirls are Christensen. There are more modern ones. As I said, I think they might be Champs. In any case, I'm sure they're not all as old as Christensens. But the newer swirls aren't called moonies.
  23. Tiptoeing in to point out a couple of technicalities: 1. The name "moonie" was around before Christensen. I don't know if it referred to stone or to handmade glass marbles. 2. Akro used the name "Fire Opal" for more than their red marbles. (picture) Tiptoeing back out now so as not to throw Gary's thread too far off track. I hope.
