In the end my friend decided to hang on to that one (above) for now. And who could blame that position? I would too. I was interested in the mib above because it seemed a bit more blue-green than the two examples I have (they were wild caught examples in a quart jar for $20...both had rust, but were in great condition overall). I wonder out loud if the marble above could also be CAC? I have been unable to confirm the entire pallet of opaques that CAC might have produced. Here is one of the two I have, and that I feel very confident are MFC Imperial Jade....the settings on both of the photographs were the same. John

Just picked this one up. Has some wear here and there, but those colors....transparent red and green over that deep Akro orange.

So great to see those outsider examples.

Seeing that other post on natural agates prompted me to get out the calipers and measure these two, super small natural agates I found once in a jar of good mibs. These are 0.31" and 0.32" at their broadest diameter; polished any further and they would be sand. I can barely keep track of these two...a real liability....almost look like small pills or a bb! For comparison, the central one is 0.69".

I've heard these referred to as Citrus Trees. I have one like yours, but less white and more transparent. The colored ribbons should be transparent as yours are, and yours are relatively wide....I don't know if the white needs to be wispier or not. Not at all experienced with the total range of variation of these. In my thinking, yours is! Cool mib. John

Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how it turns out for sure. John

It isn't mine yet....trying to get a friend of mine to sell it to me. This one is imperfect, so I think I stand a chance!

Those last two sure are unusual! Nice! John

I should have noted that I had previously registered a response on a metal detector on a mib. I didn't at once buy a detector and go out digging, but I'll give you that...easily could have been some metal fragments in the mib that couldn't be seen or something I don't understand. I have access to one, so down the road, I'll hit a few more and let everyone know. Certainly re-dox reactions occur in some molten, colored glass from my understanding (imperfect for sure)....copper does with iron; and where the mib was when that reaction was halted might, in principle give enough metal with magnetic properties (reduce the oxidation number in an ionic metal to give some elements a full compliment of electrons), but I just don't know. And you are correct to note, when digging for metal, a number of other things surely can show up in a dig. I'm not going to claim a thing about reliability of this approach in the least.

I think a good call too...I have that yellow transparent component in marbles that I might take to be Ravenswood.

Some marbles will come up with a properly designed and high enough quality metal detector. Green glowing marbles with uranium certainly might be picked up by the detector...head over to any number of 'prospecting' boards and you will see these discussed and sometimes examples shown. I wouldn't think the marble could be very deep...but this is just a guess. I would think that sufficient quantity of other atoms such as iron and antimony might ping' back with a good detector too.

Curious if the white glows green under a blacklight. John

This is very helpful. Clear photos, clear arrangement and the numbers rule! After several runs over these over the last two days, I'd have to say for me the standout mib is #109...so distinctive. The serpentine drizzle in #125 is so amazing I can barely stand it. Oh heck, they are all great in their way. In particular, it was way helpful to see some of those verified transparent swirls near the end. This post helps me with a good number of swirls I've been working with in the collection. Thanks Ric! The examples above are totally traumatized! I have a group of five, probably CAC American Agates/Pelt Prima Agates, in a fisher tray on my desk that are hammered and that I can't part with. I keep them because I like this type of marble, and I am trying to make a bit more progress on their identification. I wouldn't pretend to have figured these out...so much back and forth in my head and out there. FWIW, today I am thinking the left and middle are CAC, and the right shooter is a Pelt. Tomorrow I'll probably change my mind.

Nice to see those in there. Most would be easy to ID due to the feathering, but as suspected, sometimes they don't feather much...and herein, sometimes, lies the rub. John

I've been working on that slender snake on yellow/amber glass in the Nov 25 post above. I really thought the pictures in that post got the snake part, but not the glass part at all, color and everything. Too much light buzzing around in that image, and it didn't give much hint to the bubbles and color. Came up with this as a replacement. 0.60"

There's a whole lot of twisting going on

Very cool. -
It's bright, but not super bright. Appears to be all a very deep blue color, over-running on the white.

Cheese....correct. I went with Ron. I saw no reason to not do so...but I also get this is a fence-sitter. John
