Glad you got your lighting situation figured out Jim, excellent base reaction pix. I had a similar problem a while back, it was my uv flashlight it didn't show anything on over half the mibs I tried it on, then when I tried my blacklight tube "wham" mibs that weren't showing any reaction @ all lit up like Christmas trees. Now I use my 3 foot tube all the time or a small 6 inch handheld tube. Don't know if you had the same problem or not ??

This link comes into agreement w/ your ace definition Steph (& so do I) a rare bird indeed. As far as fires second pic of an onyx I ID'd it above, lost in the flurry I guess ?? I'm tryin, just certain thing I get stuck on stupid .... .... after so many years my hard drive brain get's stuck in second gear. I like the "mibology" term .... P.S. We'll probably end up here again if I don't learn how to shift and get my Akronaughts license ?? LINK :: https://www.allaboutmarbles.com/viewtopic.php?t=45347

Personally I think some made it, no real way to tell !! Just like any dug marbles some will be in perfect mint shape & others, well you know. The red in both the Superman and the Indian blanket was transparent & notorious for having surface fractures i.e. incompatible w/ the base glass. Maybe @wvrons will chime in later tonight ?? There's a word for it but for the lifame I can't remember it right now ??

Dope !! Is that a steelie AKA ball bearing, next to those big limeades ?? If so give it a huck, no way to tell if it was sold as a marble or a ball bearing, both came from the same place and are deadly to glass marbles. The only one's I'd keep are the hollow ones, and even then they'd have to be separated from the glass. Solid ball bearings were packaged and sold as marbles, if you have them in the orig. packaging yes worth a little but separately "0" LINK :: https://marbleconnection.com/topic/7389-steelies/#comment-69909 Collectable Steelies ; LINK :: https://marbleconnection.com/topic/26739-steelies/ LINK :: https://www.marblecollecting.com/marble-reference/online-marble-id-guide/other-non-glass-materials/

Yes, the one on the left in the last pic is Vitro, I would've missed it to if ya didn't say anything. Nice display Brother !!

The two I have pictured don't have fractures either but the majority do, just like the majority of Superman corks. I had to go through dozens before I found some in minty shape w/o fractures and that hadn't been polished, I did keep one that was polished because it was so big.

Onyx above ; "Ace" refers to the translucent milky base glass in the OP IMO MCSA ID reference Corkscrews are identifiable as being two or more spirals of color that rotate around the marble from one pole to the other, but do not intersect. Different color combinations and designs were marketed by Akro Agate under a variety of names: Prize Name (two opaque colors), Special (three or more opaque colors), Ace (one opaque color and translucent milky white), Spiral (transparent clear base with colored spiral), Onyx (transparent color base with opaque white spiral). In addition, other names have been applied by children and collectors over the years: Snake (a Spiral or Onyx where the opaque or colored glass is on the surface and just below it), Ribbon (a Spiral or Onyx where the opaque or colored glass goes almost to the center of the marble), “Ades” (types of Aces with fluorescent base glass), and Popeye (a specific type of Special commonly found in Popeye marble boxes).

One of my most valued & treasured possessions, we lived in the house my Grandfather built, only about 1.5 miles from the single room school my Mother attended as a child. Long since converted into a home, I wish she was still with us so she could show me where they played mibs and the location of the outhouses. Not that I could get passed all the No Trespassing signs but ya never know. Well, will wonders never cease, I googled the old school and a picture came up w/ the history, I can't believe it !! My Mothers' generation as well as mine & me all went to school w/ members of the Vannatta Family, what a trip !! Of course that school had been empty for years, I can remember it being that way when I was a child before it was converted into a home sometime after I graduated high school.
