5/8” clear base veneered purple/red/white
akroorka replied to Carowill's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I agree that it is a Vitro marble---name wise--no help here. I do think that this one is an earlier version of a Vitro. As always , more opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Nice marble! Marble--On!! -
I had the books out, so what the heck. All that I can come up with is"Solid Core". More opinions are needed and respected of course. Nice marble for sure what ever it may be called. Marble--On!!

Here is a “Banded Opaque” at 13/16”. I have a lot of books and I had to go back in time to find a name for this one, Grist 1992. If there is another name for this one feel free to say so, live and learn! Marble—On!!

This is a tuff one, it almost looks like a cat-eye that disintegrated. (not that I have ever seen such a thing) Marble—On!!

I posted earlier today about some that are being sold as "beach washed"--the same trap for new collectors as any polished machine made may be. I have some saved polished Akros some place in the realm as well. These have never bit me but they have bit some of my loved ones giving them as gifts---it just burns my Donkey. This may turn out to be one of the greatest threads for the uninformed. I urge you all to get involved as I will tomorrow. Post the ones that may have turned you to the dark side of polished machine made marbles. I just hate them--- Really!! Just my humble opinion of course, Marble—On!!

You did well. Always trust your instincts and never look back. Marble—On!!

This one is rightfully named but that does not explain the price----crazy, crazy, crazy for a really common example at one inch. This is what happens when multiple “bidders” show up. Check the bidding/bidders profile and take it from there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/234488112228?hash=item369894a464:g:inAAAOSwUtpiRPru This is skunky---at least to me. Marble--On!!

I have had some marbles "polished" Yours was worth the effort for sure. If you feel bad--fall in line. Live and learn as we all have done. Always check for pontils. It is a beauty! Marble--On!!

Lots of fun there Mojo--a very nice bunch--even if found in the USA. Marble-On!!

Here is one that you will not see every day. A one inch, blue based, “brushed patch” Master Glass marble. This one is back lit and flash filled while back lit. Marble—On!!

That would not have been in my first three guesses Ric. Thanks and Marble—On!!

Backlight them all Fire and hit them with UV as well. Marble--On!!

Many Vacors are hard to appreciate until you do some research. They have the bad and the good---and the quite excellant as well. Buyers beware, there were/are some Vacors that were sold by the company as a sand-blasted or a tumbled variety. Hurricanes and Michelangelo's were two of them. They are quite rare. (quite nice if you find the originals, but the nets are easy to open and refill ) These are being reproduced(who would have thought 20 years ago that this would be the case) Marble--On!!

Those are nice marbles Tommy. They do not grow on trees. Marble--On!!

Those last two shots that are backlit are just very nice Images of what a Vacor may be in hand. Marble--On!!

Here ya go Fire. Ric and I were on the same page today. I just shot a purple one. I love these clear based Vitro marbles. Marble—On!!

I will call this one an opposing “Helmet” at 5/8”. The stripes are wrong, oh well. Transparent clear and transparent green based. Who knows what to call it other than Vitro “magic”. Marble—On!!

Size matters, it may be a Champion imho. Marble--On!!

Here are two odd ones that caught my eye today. I have no idea where they were made other than West Virginia, no Vacor here. Both are 9/16”. Any opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Marble—On!!
