Alternative sorting systems?
akroorka replied to Chris Parson's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I sort by manufacturer, damage, type, size ,marbles that were dug, country of origin, who they came from and of courseātop shelf, which is a mix. If I had more room to display I may have sorted in a different manner, I just deal with what I have and am happy for it. (less dusting for sure) Damage on machine-mades used to be a no-no. I am seeing more and more listings on ebay that describe damage with lots that are going for a good price. A sign of the times. When I sort for size I use a Westcott T-800 template, this is as close as I can get to what the original company used to size the marbles that they made. I sort sizes to backfill incomplete or empty boxes and do not split hairs on size. Sort the way that suites your collecting mind, some collectors sort the same, many are different. I have a backlog of cat-eyes to sort, I am not that bored yetāsoon though. MarbleāOn!! -
I love what you share with us all Gladys. Odd is always fun for the majority that hang out here. This marble shows cutoff marks on the blue/white that look like Akro and cutoff marks on the base that look more like Master---strange but true. The blue/white coloration almost seems like an afterthought. This one was fun, an Akro/Master combo. Keep them coming!! MarbleāOn!!

pontil on one end but the other looks cut? .55
akroorka replied to Jeremysvt's topic in Marble I.D.'s
No chips here, Just two melted pontils imho. The reflections in the images are obvious. Great marble!! Marble--On!! -
This one is a Pelt imho. Marble--On!!

Cutlines are one part of an ID that are very important but they are not always the truth. The colors here tell me that it is a Master Made Marble. I just call them like I see them. Marble--On!!

Marble innards, let's see your innards
akroorka replied to jeeperman's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Here is a nice one at 2 Ā¼ā it has a big chip out of it and it does reveal some nice action. MarbleāOn!! -
I am glad to say that Gladys started this weeks MK Monday post---I was waiting for someone. Great examples Gladys!! We may get sick of sorting MK marbles but they really do deserve a place in the history and collections of many. I like them to a point----American made---that is enough for me. MarbleāOn!!

Thanks Gladys, Great images--- I still think that this may be a Master Made Marble. It could be one that was missed by the Quality Control during a change in the desired end product. The furnaces did not quit, they just kept on going until they could no longer hold together. The blue and white were not intended to be part of this marble, or visa versa, this is the way that it went and finished as you see it. This is my best opinion and I hope that more are coming. MarbleāOn!!

Show some more images and lets make this a longer post Gladys. It is worth it imho. Marble--On!!

This is a weird one as far as I am concernedāgood job once again Gladys. I would not call it a MK. I do not think that it is a Vitro. It looks more like a Master than an Akro to me. Some shots of the cutoffs straight on where the base glass appears cutoff may help any others to give their ideas, which are needed and respected as always. MarbleāOn!!

Carowill-Fairly new to The Marble Connection
akroorka replied to Carowill's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Welcome Bill, nice cateyes! -
Just based on the colors I would say that this one is Westite. The Westite plant had a fire that ended production and Akro purchased many of the molds. I cannot recall if Akro reproduced this one or not. Nice find!

This one was not made the way that it was intended to be made imho. It could be one of many different makers. Marble--On!!

I think that they are both Peltš. More opinions are needed-lol Marble--On!!

Hi Ron, I have the same problem and I discovered yesterday that if you click on the really big ones they get smaller instead of bigger. Who knew? Marble--On, and save those eyes!!

Gladys, I would call this one a Top Shelf Master. ( I really wanted to call it an Akro Sparkler ) Just a really great Master Made marble--thanks for sharing this beauty with us. You sure can pull out the best! Marble--On!!

Here's a bullseye agate you don't see every day
akroorka replied to bumblebee's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
That is a very cool Agate! That mossy part must be a tad (or a few tads) more delicate. -
I think that it is a Master Gladys. Nice bright colors---old glass(batch?)---cool marble. Marble--On!!

These Oxblood patches have always caught my eye. Here are four that also caught my pocketbook. This type of patch has a whispy white interior which just could be opalescent. It is hard to really tell with the oxblood involved while backlightingājust instincts. I have only seen this type with green and with yellow included. Anyone seen any other colors? MarbleāOn!!!
-
I agree, the depth of the oxblood really shines in these images Gladys. Marble--On!!

Nice colors, This one was made overseas. Marble--On!!

So do I. Nice bright white in that one! It is good to see that someone has sunlight today Gladys. Marble--On!!
