  1. Boy, those fake Bulgarian hand gathered marbles really messed up things in 2014. Or rather, proved how simple it is to fake or copy antique glass making marbles and beads. These sure look right, hand gathered, and holes poked through them while hot. Yet, the clear ones look like those Bulgarian copies. For that scam, no longer can one be certain on anything that looks similar to those Bulgarian fakes. Can't or would not claim this is where they came from, but this topic entertains how easy it is to do it:
  2. That sums it up, good detective work there Ric.. Alibaba /AliExpress is one of China's online sales portals. I have been surprised that Alibaba managed to survive because, in the nineties, it was 90% polluted with scams. Today, I wouldn't trust the China companies there any further than I can spit.
  3. Akro Dug-up Snake that defied Barker's limits to the extent, with solid color, it would be a killer flame too. Difficult to visualize in just a photo; This big Ol 'shooter has 7 full twists or spins which just happens to be the common equivalent of most multiple tipped flames. See added image of CAC flame and spin count below this magical wonder. Disclaimer: At the time I made this, 20 years ago the spin count seemed not so random as it appears but rather, to find and be able to create Flames with a spinning cup was never purposely done. Moreover, it's simply coincidence that the stream, out of a nozzle is small enough for the glass to lay on a gathering cup and pile as it oozes out a nozzle... Thicker the stream can produce 3 tips, thin you may find 7 tips and more.
  4. Humm,, now that does strike a bell, a memory in my clustered mental universe.
  5. Wondering if the pinwheels are from China? Where did you get them Mojo?
  6. CAC x2 and it's coral looking for the rich blending color some of their swirls have.
  7. Good looking Vitro. You may have a bonus with the red if it looks like it's floating or spilling across the surface. I had called them 'Floaters'. I think, these days, when red is dark enough, peeps call it a variation of anemic Oxblood. This one has it floating atop more than half which is uncommon. Your red, if floating, would be more the norm. Always a plus especially for how nice yours also looks like an Akro sparkler and encased with clear. Floater Tri-lite: Like this: 3/4" shooter
  8. Junk like that can be an excellent sorce to aide in understanding how made. your center orange marble is hand gathered and you can see that inside, maybe 5 and more times the punty rod was twirled, like cotton candy is, until there was enough gathered to make it big enough.
  9. Whelp, as your fancy preference is beads, looks like a good time to get a glass drill bit and make your own trade bead neckless. 😈
  10. Yup. If I recall correctly, the painted look verity came 1st in 1990's and this frit applied came later. There's like, billions of each all over the place constantly being improperly ID as antiques.
  11. Smooth yes, but now you should see: the spots look and feel like fired enamels.
  12. 1st 2 are same maybe Vitro, but Jabo Could be the player. 3rd, is tricky for the blue,
  13. Swirls, for the most part, a ribbon that meanders inside. Concentrate really hard and you can follow it. Slags were mixed, raw materials or glass swirled while molten in the furnace or a tank. You could simulate it with acrylic paint, like Peter Max does with his brush, blending thick colors. Both of yours are slags frozen in time as blended. .
  14. German Solitaire; Original mint marble set, no box. I picket this up from England Ebay several years ago. After I received and began to look for patterns. There're 8 different sets of 3 that are 'Same Cane' on the outer rows. Within the inner most rows, each marble is a different type or pattern from the least colors to the most colorful. It's a set, deliberately packaged with order. Missing one marble would be the red ceramic in center these had then. Top row: pink and green. Bottom: pink white and green. Right pink blue and white latticinio. Left: Pink blue and white Ribbons. Next row, like the top has a succession of opposing patterns and color in sets. After that, I saw others especially those with the bright 'European colors' B/C they'd have sets of 3.
  15. "Pin-wheels" That's perfect. While it's been about 10 years since I hunted Europe, never saw Pinwheels before.
  16. Yeah, I think most have that opinion so, although kids didn't like em much in my school yard, trying to set the record straight. Actually, surprising that, when Jill dug MK's near Paden City and sold lots of unsearched dirty marbles, I have more than a couple of hundred and, but, comparably, only a few Rainbow Reds in my boxes from that dump site. Here's two more MK points. 1. you probably have a bag or two that has a couple of Cub scouts and are different from old stock P&R's. I know I do and whenever Circa summer 1966 it was also different enough, which held me back from getting those: The yellow [Edit: Blue is thin, I meant] is thin and nearly looks like it was painted on. I'll add an old photo maybe you can see. 2. There were no names on bags; Boy Scout, Girl, Spider and others. Including Hybrids, these were just the common names the kids used. Or rather, for my brother being 2 years older, they were introduced to me when he was in 1st grade. Kids did collect them to the affect; they'd compete to get, at least, one of each verity and special preference for hybrids. I had a small set, 7/8 Hybrid Girl scout, 7/8" Bengal tiger, the same on big wasp and 5/8" verities, IDK Kiddy Garden or 1st grade. Getting or even seeing a Watermelon was almost impossible, even the beat ones were so hard to get because, whoever had the hard-to-find special verities were also excellent shots so, plenty favorites and specials got a lot of game play; knicks bruises and chips. IDK but recall, it was usually to beat, trick or trade my brother or a few kids, especially girls on my street. I can date that period because summer of 63 we moved into a brand new house and my new school, also brand new, had a few better shots that, I don't recall ever beating them. Which is why I remember Rainbow Reds circa 1964-5. They wouldn't play against them. Shoot, I thought I recovered my photo of a circa 1966 bag with new Boy scouts. But I did mange to find the photo I made showing the difference between Paden City dug-ups and St. Mary's. In this, on right bottom of the rows; two cub scouts. The right is a blended while the left , I chose it because the blue is very thin, like those I saw. If you have a bag, you can't miss them albeit, my bags don't have the thin ribbons it has, they are standard as older. They look like enamel paint; standard P&R style. Mark that as 1966, to be sure.
  17. No, It's not a CAC, It's just cool inside because out you clearly see two ribbons while as it meanders internally, they bend, get wider and blend with each other. You can see that a bit on the top, in photo. I shot this years ago, 10-12, and purposely captured the details, including a little backlit, to get most that could be seen.
  18. Schweet. Thanks Ric, had me thinking I was getting delusional. I am pretty sure those were made 1964 or 5. Not potentially delusional as I remember which grade I was in when kids despised them as much as MK cat eyes. 🥴
  19. Yeah, Thanks Ric, I thought it would be easy to ID by now. That's the first I have heard of a name or type so I searched em. I don't think it's a solar flare, not a coral as well. It is though, a lighter transparent green vs a coral's. Yellow and orange ribbons lite it up. It is backlit a little on bottom. It's not dark as it appears in photo. backlite, the two ribbons are blending together, it's as pretty as a CAC cyclone, but in, almost, coke bottle green that loves light to pop. The ribbon colors blending around inside, adds to its pizzazz. 5/8" Not a scratch, looks mint with a couple of, what appears to be; as made pin pricks. I've had it floating around, probably over 25 years, in the; 'What am I?' box'. Looking on the net, I guess it does fit in the Exotic arena, unless somebody knows better?
  20. Yeah you are correct, 'Experiential' I do remember the Duch pipe story. Not much though as some was kept secretive; could you elaborate? Was that where all the blue and yellow parch Popeyes and "3/4"Experiential crystal oxblood" came from? Those black chocolate bricks too. Do you recall the year??
  21. Neet stuff Malissa. If you haven't discovered yet, you may be pleased to learn that hand-made German Cane-cut marbles were made into 'Trade bead' neckless too. Rare to find them plus other sorts of antique Hand gathered Trade bead marbles which are not Czech can be found tied into neckleses. . I personally, do not have any, albeit when you know what to look for, you can see them like, once in a blue moon at Ebay. They are out there in marble and jewelry collectors' hands.
  22. Had this WVS for so many, many years, IDK is it an Alley or Raven and what do ya'll call it?
  23. Here's one that's probably the rarest on the chain. It is two marble king orange cats squished together and perfectly round, a Double Ingit without imperfections.
