  1. I have done more research on the Codd Marble. The other posts are correct in they are molded marbles. There is some info here on the Marble Connection way back in the archives on this subject. Hiram Codd was the inventor of this ingenious bottle and sealing system. He did have a patent on it but later he let other companies make his design bottle but they had to buy the marbles, gaskets and the tooling to make the bottle seal. What a guy. Some of the of the other interesting info I came across was the bottles were returnable. If you could round up 100 bottles and take them in to a general store, they would give you one penny for them. WOW! Couldn’t really get rich. Also Children in those days would break the bottles to get the marble. Guys who look for bottles in old dump sites find evidence of this in the number of broken Codd bottles they find
  2. This thing looks cool when you rotate it in the light IMG_9196.mov
  3. Well, I’d say so. Proofs in the bottle. They look very similar. I’d like to hear what the others say also.
  4. Thanks Big Bill red beard. I’ll have to check it out.
  5. Stevenjuststevens, I looked up Champion marbles on “Joes Marbles” on this site. Does this marble look close to yours?
  6. Hey Kiwigal, Good news. I found my Codd neck bottle. I finally got a good picture of it and it is identical to yours. I hope you can see it in the photo. It definitely has the button mark and the mold marks.
  7. Welcome aboard Mibs.
  8. Kiwigal, I have a couple of the Codd bottles. I’ll have to dig them out and look at them. I do remember watching a vintage video on how they were made. The first pic is supposed to be a marble pulled from a bottle. The second is a snap shot from the video that shows molding the marbles. Looks like they made several at a time. As they cooled they would break them off. The third is just extra. I’m still trying to find one of these for my collection. It’s called a “Codd’s Wallop” it’s for removing the marble from the gasket. It went on top of the bottle then stuck with the palm of you had. This made a POP. That’s how we got the word “Soda Pop”. I’m not making that up 😉When I find my bottles I’ll report back as to what mine look like. One thing to add, the way these marbles were made in the video was labor intensive and only made a few at a time. I imagine someone must have come up with the idea of buying machine made marbles because of ease and cost. I know this is just speculation but if this is true the ones with the seams and button marks could be from early bottles
  9. Thanks Ghad G, just like with the marbles, I’ll keep looking and investigating. Like your finds they are not a naturally occurring stone with grove and being somewhat round. We may never know. To stay with the content of The Marble Connection I’d like to think that this may be an early form of what marbles evolved into. This one would be a toe smasher though. 😁
  10. Well, can I assume that you know that it’s a Chinese checkerboard. Looks like it’s made of one piece of walnut, very old and handmade. That’s just my opinion. Most ones I ever come across are cheap metal ones. That one is cool.
  11. It’s some kinda stone. Pretty heavy. I’m no rock guy but it’s not sandstone. It’s had me puzzled for at least 10 years. I did find it on what is supposed to be a Native American site. There are a lot of them here in Southern Indiana. I’ve always thought it might be a war club but others same a game ball. Sort of like Cherokee Rolley Hole
  12. I hope I can post this here but I’ve been trying to get it identified for a long time. I just came across it tonight in all my stuff. As you can see it’s about the size of a baseball. Any ideas. Thanks everyone.
  13. Fire1981, Thanks for the comparison. I’m going to save these for the future.
  14. Melissa, There is also a really good video with Stephen Bahr talking about Oxbood and Aventurine. This is just some of the stuff I've found in my research. I do have to say that Step's Study Hall is an awesome place to find info.
  15. Melissa , I hope I can do this but I don't see why not. I also have been studying OX blood in marbles and while doing a web search I came across a thread on this site in Step's Study Hall. The thread is by Richsantaclause on Dec 22, 2010. I think it's just Titled Oxblood. Pretty cool
  16. I think I’m going to search for a Peltier and a Marble King wasp to make a side by side comparison for personal reference and then post it.
  17. Schmoozer, it does look a little simple. Who knows, maybe the guy who made the marble was training a new guy the trade and just used what was laying around. You know a lot of marbles have names like Latina swirl, solid core, peppermint swirl, end of day, onion, skin maybe this one is a “Plain Jane” 😁
  18. Yep, found a bunch of Vacor Ladybug pics. I get close a lot of times trying to ID these things but I’m gettin there. Thanks everyone
  19. Looking through some marbles I got for Christmas I come across this one. Don’t know why but it just stood out tonight.
  20. I think it a cool marble too. Tell how you found. Sometime that’s as good as the marble itself. I especially cherish the days I spend with my kids looking for the next one. I’m waiting for backwater in a ditch creek/ old country dump to reside so I can look for marbles I use to shoot out of a sling shot.
  21. Great info. Love the marble and can see the sharp edges and other things you described. WOW I’d still love to have it but it’s a little steep for me. If I hit the lottery this weekend I’ll get us both one.
