  1. Interesting info about the Pennsboro Alley. I have many Alley white based swirls. I can see no connection but this will help me learn more. Thank you!
  2. Thank you so much. I will be able to figure them out I think by knowing that much. I'll look at other Akros and report back here. You guys rock.
  3. davesnothere Glad you stuck around after all.
  4. Thanks for looking anyway Nantucketdink. They aren't the usual Mega Marbles but they were in the same large bunch of Vacors I recently picked up.
  5. The one on the left looks Jabo or D.A.S. to me, the one on the right might be Jabo, I don't know. Both about 5/8
  6. All three are just a smidge over 5/8 Vitro Superior (UVR) Marble King Red White Blue older translucent rainbow Heaton Swirl (very reactive to UV) or a Jabo but I don't think so. Lots of reflection on the evidence of some playwear.
  7. My guess was Vitro. The larger ones are 11/16 and the two smaller ones are 17/32 and 19/32. Do these have a general name for the type? Thank you.
  8. A SUPER thoughtful GIFT from a very good friend of ours here on this forum. I will not mention the giver name but I did not expect such a haul of Mexico's Vacor marbles. Some Canadian, Some Mexico, some hard to find sold in the USA. and . . . I do believe that is an original bag of PELTIER banana Cats Eyes Wow. You know who you are and I THANK YOU so much. We are all lucky to have you here but I was luckiest last week. Believe it or not, I thought this special somebody was just sending me empty black Mega Marble mesh bags since I was making up my own sets. A couple PM's later back and forth it became a bit more obvious to me I wasn't getting empty bags. I was very grateful for empty bags, can you imagine opening up this box full of these marbles? Total SURPRISE and a MAJOR SCORE!!!!!
  9. Art, I am not a huge fan of the iridescent marbles unless they have just a hint maybe and of course we know they come from Mexico anyway. I can live with them LOL. I like all pretty marbles though. My first try was just using Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and rubbed the marble with fingers and then paper towel. I did this like you would rub a worry stone for a long time. ( I just love this marble ) It is hard to say if I reduced the amount of the shiny iridescence but I do believe I have taken off or altered the surface on the red and yellow one in the forefront. The three behind it did not get near the time and effort. They don't look different . . . yet. Maybe a smidge? Next, I used a pumice kind of rectangle that people use to rub down callouses on their feet with some polish. This useless marble has a huge chip on one side, rolling it with some pressure has formed a good groove for it to roll in. Overall, I don't think I will pursue this except in an individual effort here and there. It's just too much work. So many "shinys" - so little time. Results, I do believe I have lessened the shine. Perhaps a short duration in a rock tumbler would be less work. But if there is one marble and I really want to make it look the way I want it to, I suppose this method would work. My theory is that the shiny layer is not very deep if it is in the glass.
  10. Thank you kindly Alan. I will find a fractured mib and try to remove it. I will report back with my findings. I did not knw it was part of the glass.
  11. I think about this once in awhile when I see a crazy shiny marble I know would have looked better without the iridescent coating. Well, today I will ask. This is not glass is it? I think it is some kind of sprayed on stuff but I wonder if it can be dissolved or rubbed off with some car polish or something without damaging the real marble inside. Anyone know? Thanks!
  12. Here's a group shot of 10 marbles that are similar. All about 5/8th. Most have a yellow patch or two, one has an orange stripe, one looks like a Master Marble but I don't think it is. There is a dark brownish green or orange cloud generally on one side of the interior. I have never seen Vacor marbles that looked like these before. Can anyone tell me the name for these? Thank you!
  13. Nice one. It appears to be maybe a larger marble? A lot of the Fiesta's I am finding are kinda stingy with the thickness of the strands and swirls. Yours looks healthy.
  14. Here's another, not quite 5/8th but very close. Looks much nicer than these pictures but close. I have no idea what kind of Vacor / Mega Marble this is? Do you? Reminds me of an Octopus or Orangutan but nawwww. Thought it was some kind of Halloween type but I don't think so, the swirls are more on the surface only. It is in the top right area of my opening picture. Gracias
  15. The one in the center of my group shot up top is or is no larger than 9/16th. I just think it's so pretty. The next person may not, but marble collecting is like that. I know it's Vacor but what kind, I cannot say. I think this one deserved my best effort at a collage. Thanks for admiring. LOL
  16. These are a bit different than the usual specimen of same kind. I tried to identify. See if I am right and if not please correct me. That boulder was tough but I think I got it right. These were odd balls coming from asst type bags. Thank you! The one on the left looks like a blended Poison Dart Frog maybe, the one on the right is a beauty. At least for me. Just a note . . . This post surprised me. I have become a "Mentor" We'll that is far from the truth in the marble world. I am the Sargent Shultz of marble knowledge.
  17. That siamese twin akro is wild. These are laying around on my desk with some other dimpled and deformed mibs. These might be double ingots. I am not sure the white with blue is but the others are.
  18. They do look tasty though. Aren't they Conquerors in the second image up from my post? Vermonters looks like a variety of types of Vitros. Very nice! (both of them)
  19. These are ball bearings. I know, we misnamed them way back then. The real steelies almost look like a jingle bell with the X on one side as a seam. I don't have any of those. Sorry.
  20. Thanks all ! All the Round tag Glasfirma Top Notch mibs are smaller. Way smaller. They still have just as good a quality detail and design though which is nice.
  21. Just an observation and report for those who care to know. It is quite obvious when holding one Top Notch bag in one hand and a Mega Marble in the other. However, on the internet, pictures do not tell. I have about a dozen of these Top Notch net bags and thought I'd see what size they really are. I picked out a random set of Bee Cool, the Mexican version of Bumblebee. So the Glasfirma Top Notch Net Bags contain smaller marbles every time. 2 1/2" pee wee's 17 17/32" size marbles 5 9/16" and a 7/8" shooter The Mega Marble US Angelfish net bag had these sizes. Yes, sizes do vary. These look to be the same as the current Van Gogh named marbles. 3 19/32" 20 5/8" size marbles 1 21/32" and a 15/16" shooter
  22. I have 5 that are about 1/2 inch. When I was a kid, if you had a "Steelie" you had something good in your bag. A Shooter size was even better! These have no real value except for those vague memories.
  23. Moms eyes are hidden in feathers. Who watches the kids? They are cute.
