If anyone is interested in glaciers or natural events, this one is going on right now in Juneau, Alaska, it's a Glacial Outburst Flood. When this first happened, it of course was a complete surprise, but this is now a highly-monitored event and fairly interesting to learn about. Two glaciers meet in a valley, one is blocking the run-off of the second glacier which causes the water to fill the basin at that intersection. When that water gets enough volume, it literally lifts the first glacier, the blocking glacier, off the rock and the waters flood into the valley below. I do have friends that live in the affected area, but they have done what they can for now and are on all the notification and alert lists. My family is not in the affected area. I was surprised that Juneau has a dedicated YouTube channel for Live updates, but very happy about that, I'm watching closely.

I can picture that box in my mind, I wish I had been there to see that, I bet it was amazing, and it sounds like it was a lot of work to make and to set up, it would be so worth it though.

Well this was a fun thread to peruse, great Oxblood! That plate is amazing @akroorka, when looking through the plate, the ox looks like a geometric pattern or a spider web. And if you consider the bottom ring of the plate, it looks like a planet with rings, or the sun with solar flares. Very cool plate. I'll have to re-examine my marbles tomorrow looking for some Ox, dang 😄 Here is my favorite Akro corkscrew Oxblood. 19/32"

A little early for Akro Friday, but it's almost here! 🤩 1. Orange corkscrew on translucent base 3/4" 2. Green Triple twist Snake 19/32" 3. Yellow Ace 21/32" 4. Blue corkscrew on translucent base 21/32" In that last one, I really love seeing the cold rolls on the edge of a color, I think that just looks amazing.

I really like that 7/8" marble teajayo, very unusual color combination.

I would also agree, Contemporary, and cool one at that. Like Art suggested, look for a signature, they are typically at one of the poles, but check the entire surface. One thing I like about artists signing their contemporary marbles is that it gives a clue as to which side of the marble that the artist considered as 'up' In my mind, it seems the artist would sign the bottom of the marble so as not to be displayed.

Those last two are just gorgeous. And that second mib is unusual, it has almost no spin, so cool!

A little late for Akro Friday, but here we go 1. Imperial 17/32" 2. Orange cork on a transparent Red, I love finding these 3. Red, Orange, and Green Special 5/8" 4. Yellow and an inky-ish Blue on translucent base 21/32" 5. Lavender and Yellow Popeye 19/32" Have a great weekend everyone!

More Akro out in the Florida sun ☀️ There is some older Marble King, some newer Marble King, handmade, contemporary, three Black patches, some Peltier, some coins, all on the far left side of this case. The rest is all Akro 🤩 There are Blue on Blue, some Brown corks, Black and White, a White cork on Blue Prize Name which I find exciting, some larger size Spirals, a couple Popeyes, some 9/16", and even some at 17/32". I just can't get enough of Akro and the never-ending combinations. -Jess

IMHO I would say polished. The first pontil you're showing has an unusual squarish shape to it. And two, the second photo, the shape of the sphere looks kind of squared off also (FWIW, as a non-handmade collector). And there is a kind of flat line on the right side in that second photo also. Just odd to me. My two cents. Beautiful colors!

Totally trust you on this Fire, I absolutely was not questioning, I was so far off. Sometimes it's kind of embarrassing that I've been collecting Akro for this amount of time and know so very little about other companies. It's time I start learning. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, twelve years. Congrats on getting one! I just spent the last hour in Steph's Study Hall looking at Vitros thinking I might find your marble, nope. I have so much to learn about other companies. It was a fun hour anyway

Sure Wolf, I thought I already had photos of this one but I didn't, turns out I had only taken photos of it backlit, so here you go, here's both 5/8"

If I can add my thoughts here too, I've seen very very few Yellow on transparent Green Akros, and the two or three that I've seen or heard of even, have annealing fractures. I have one, it's seen it's time in the ring, but it has at least one annealing fracture. One other thing, in your photos marbleman, photo 19 in the pink circled area it looks like the flow of glass goes in two different directions, one flow is north/south, the second flow is east/west. I don't know Jabo marbles, but I feel pretty confident in Akro, and I've never seen this cross flow. I would say not Akro. I'd be interested to see the video though -Jess

Took two cases out in the sun this morning, it just makes them sparkle. In the first photo are the Cobalt and wispy White from the photos yesterday, this case is where they live. In the first post, that is the only real display I have for my Akro, the rest stay in containers. In the smaller case, the red one, there are eight other marbles, Master, two handmades, a Peltier, a Marble King, even a foreign one there, all in the upper left. The rest are all Akro 🤩
