  1. After studying the construction of these beautiful orbs for over 10 years I am open to all new ideas and theories. Believe me, I really want to hear and discuss one that seems logical to me. Nothing I have heard yet makes sense to ME. Thats all. If others want to believe they have figured it out that is great, they can relax and don't have to listen to any more theories. In the mean time I will be out there with an open mind and all ears until something makes sense to me..And it won't take a time machine if someone ever comes up with some drawings pictures or machines??
  2. Brian and I exchanged some thoughts. I didn't think he had it. Maybe he has new info????????
  3. get a strong magnifier and look for the fissures mentioned on page one. Thats a good start. or ask Scott about that one
  4. the strippers are free we charge for the beer(LOL)
  5. looking at, buying, selling, trading marbles is all we ever do at our local get togethers and that is enough!!
  6. I got nothing but ASSumptions when it comes to how these crazy CACs were made. I am just looking for one explanation that even fits just a bit to explain how marbles like the guineas and the 2 pics are even possible. Keep em coming!
  7. Handgathered marbles do not fold. They have to be cut quick or they show show coldrolls. There is no fold in a marble that shows 2 opposite seams. keep trying
  8. Another big assumption for sure. This in no way explains how the blotches of color can be stretched on one side and round on the other. Also a big problem with this theory is that the splotches would carry from one side of the seam to the other if this was how they were made. And that is never ever the case with Guineas or striped transparents, translucents. Still need another idea. Johns marbles are constructed much different than actual CAC construction. Guineas are constructed the same way these marbles are. Color applied differently (probably) but the rest is the same. That is why you see the internal looping and the S on the side of Guineas just like you do on these. No drip and cut IMO..
  9. The main thing folks are also forgetting is that the canes are drawn down from a larger fatter glob of glass. They are not made as a cane. Way too much time and effort to try and make an actual cane one at a time in the shape of a cane. I think the fact that many Guineas are big rounded blotches while some are stretched lines and many are both pretty much dispells any cane theory IMO.
  10. Being a CAC collector all the assumptions revolving around how they were made are nothing more than that. ASSUMPTIONS. I have seen several drawings where a glass stream from a tank was run over rollers and manipulated before reaching shears. Frit could have been added along the way and there were burners to keep things at the proper temps. I no where at any time have seen any real evidence that Canes of glass were made at CAC then used to make marbles. And looking at the seam patterns, Stretched and blotched frit patterns, and the lack of anything that looks like an actual cane I just don't see all that handwork going into these type marbles. Guineas, striped trans striped opaques even the slags were made in the same way as the Guineas. Color applied differently, yes.but thats all.. Sorry folks, I think we need come up with another idea. Those broken pieces of glass streams can be found at many of the marble sites.
  11. Very, Very, Very rarely does someone put in print what the are going to do, then does it, if it involves illegal acts. Usually it is just some poor under endowed mentally ill blowhard with a huge inferiority complex. If he does come to Canton, I invited him and gave him a good description of myself. So I can only hope he does something stupid, Everything has been recorded reported and put in place so I will be owning all his prized processions (he can keep the fake China) if he only wounds me(LOL).
  12. It is the same. And forum admin should also be reporting them.
  13. Hey Lou, Time to end this morons attacks. Why is it still going on.
  14. Hey Roger, who is this guy Robert Callahan?
  15. Hey Duffy, you ever hire out as a body guard?(LOL)
  16. He may be over the edge. How many got one of these. And I thought we were getting along just fine(LOL) I wonder if it will be a slingshot with a big scenic china? Anyone know who this well balanced guy is? Please do tell.
  17. So he spent over 1000 dollars on a questionable marble that he seems to be saying he bought for resale. You sure its the Eagle(LOL) Gonna be real hard to prove it is an authentic 1800s marble. I would be willing to bet, down right impossible. Wrong kind of ball, wrong kind of paint, wrong kind of painting, And dozens of knowledgeable collectors willing to call it questionable. And only the owner to swear its old. Good luck with that.
  18. One of the most common bottles found when digging dump site(Purex is another) Older sites seem to contain more meat sauce and seasoning bottles and stomach medicines. The old non-refrigerated meat had to be covered in something to make it edible. Then you had to sooth the gut!
  19. your email address book is sending out click on links. Derrick has one also. Folks, do not click on links in emails you are not absolutely 100% sure that they were sent by the addressee. These usually come with little more than a link for the message. .I replied on one so you could see what is going out.
  20. But he paid over 1000 dollars for it, it has to be real(LOL) Oh yea, it is real, Real new.
  21. Stacy I am not sure but I think when most torch repairs are done to large marbles they are usually placed in a kiln and preheated before torching I wonder why the color does not change in the kiln. And answering your question it takes a long time for the glass under the surface to raise to the same temp as the surface when placed in a torch. So even if there was a magic glass that went clear when heated(don't know of that stuff) it would not do so when just the surface was hit with a torch as Rich describes. Rich, I am sorry I am not being clear enough. I am not doubting that Corning may have a glass dying process of some sort. What I am willing to bet is that it is in no way similar to the paint type home coloring kits. This method allows the surface to wear off rather easily, so it is usually done on the surface of the object that will not come in contact with anything. And none that I have ever seen can be used on glass used in a way corning glass products would be used. No way are the similar IMO. But thats not what I am talking about. I just find it amazing that even if you have received several hundred sulphides for repair that you received at least 10 colored sulphides and they were all fake. I say this because I have seen probably a thousand or more sulphides and I believe I have seen only a couple dozen or so colored and they were all purple except for possibly 2 or 3. I have seen a couple others that did appear dipped in something but to me they looked obviously faked. So it is the rarity of real colored glass sulphides and faked(dipped) that made me assume the 10 fake one you received would have come from one person. And I do not see in any way that a marble making company would have been dipping marbles in color. You go ahead and believe what you want but be assured that surface colored sulphides are fakes done long after they were manufactured. If not, every scratch, chip and ding on every color dipped marble you repaired would have been obviously lacking in color. No need for a spectrascope. Suphide collectors may want to know where the fakes came from.
  22. I said, found their way "to you" Rich, not found by you Rich. I just find it amazing that many colored Sulphides were sent to you for work. And then every one was a fake.. That also made me think they might have all come from one person. The odds you got that many colored sulphides to work on is amazingly huge and the fact every single one was a fake seems beyond astronomical. (unless they all came from one source).
