  1. They were made that way. If you look at the metal on the inside rolled edge of the top there is just yellow. The inside would not fade like the outside if fading was the case
  2. Absolutely one of Freds. Real Guineas have a seam and do not have dark centers on the spots.
  3. floor shine products can be a longer fix. Also a vase full of water(add a little bleach to keep clear) is a great place to keep dull and dinged marbles as the water usually makes them look new again!!
  4. I fly back to at least one of the Canton, Buckeye Club shows every year. Sometimes both. They are always great shows. And I have a wonderful time at all the West Coast Shows and Vegas. Never been to one of those marble shows where folks get drunk and raise hell. But we do tend to overeat at least one night in Seattle and Vegas. Thursday has definitely become the best in room trading night at most. And the Canton winter show is getting so popular Wednesday night is even decent. And a good flashlight is a must. I take 3 or 4 with me to every show.
  5. Sorry but that pontil could not look any more like a dremel made pontil IMO. It was done after the marble was flamed. Fake pontils do not get much more obvious
  6. Notice the nail like object at the top of the cup(the glass wraps around it in the one pic) This gave the glass resistance so it would corkscrew when hitting the grooves in the top of the cup. As the cup spins the glass flows downe then as it is sheared the cup actually tipped down thwn back up to flip the marble onto the rounding rollers below and return to get the new flow. colorized by Jeff Hale
  7. I wasn,t apologizing for anything Rich. I was answering the question correctly and being a bit tongue in cheek.
  8. As far as vintage marbles go and not counting CAC, Alley probably made most of them although there is an occasional Champion and probably an occasional other maker. Some Champion Furnace marbles can rival CACs for flame patterns. I have seen other companies listed for flames but not any real proof.
  9. In answering your question often times some glass is removed when torching out the defects, as the glass can become cruddy looking in areas of hits cracks and dings so the torch worker will pinch off pieces of glass to remove the ugly cloudy areas. I do not use scientific terms as I am not a scientist,(LOL)
  10. Awesome color, I do wonder if condition kept away some bidders
  11. Or have examined several Torched marbles. Like polished marbles once one sees and holds a few of them they are much easier to detect. Sorry for your disappointment. But until the torch workers sign their reheated creations many folks will keep getting taken until they learn the hard way.
  12. Almost all our wives or in my case ex-wife think we are crazy to be so enthralled with these little balls of glass. And there are a few husbands and boyfriends wondering what is wrong in the head of their other half. MARBLE ON!!!!!
  13. I am bidding(Since you didn't call)(LOL)
  14. Actually very little value. Steph is just too nice to be blunt
  15. Need to have a clear picture of the surface to tell if polishing will lower or raise the value.
  16. Not saying it happened here but there is a collector in your area that has done a lot of hand buffing on big handmades.
  17. I try not to get pissed but it does still bother me a bit when auctions I am interested in get brought to every ones attention. Oh well, I will get over it(LOL)
  18. Your right Griff. Patch used to be a single base color with a single colored patch on it(occasionally the single patch was multicolored). The others were patch-ribbon patches or blended or banded or striped etc.
