The other Guineas look OK, just wonder why someone would pay over 100 bucks for one with such a huge flat spot. It is at least 1/2 the width of the marble?

pretty marble for sure. Just wonder how it can be considered Mint with all the surface scratching?(first pic) and the pinpricks noted in description???

What Games Were Played With Giant Marbles?
lstmmrbls replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Vacors early marbles were fairly rough and made for playing classic marble games. That marble just does not strike me as a Vacor product. -

Could Someone Explain The Fold Over Diaper Seam...
lstmmrbls replied to Mborda's topic in Steph's Study Hall
But none of the other Turkeys(which was a CAC name exclusively for many many years) will exhibit the lines coming from the wattle area over or from a beak. A true CAC Turkey will have that feature. Here are some and some almosts? Others companies are just a fold that sort of resembles a poor CAC Turkey. Over the last few years though any fold that sort of resembles these has been called a Turkey(Ebay Marketing usually) -
That is a great CAC color combo but the terrible pics and lack of any damage description make for a big?????? and the pics even look like the marble may have had some polishing done at one time?

When Were Akro Liberty Corks Made?
lstmmrbls replied to bumblebee's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I do not believe they had anything to do with the War effort. That is a popular color combo that has been used since German handmades. Mid to Late 30s would be my estimate as when they were first introduced. Steph probably can come up with something more accurate. -
This really didn't need to go this far at all. I have shown some variations of the Sammy marbles to close to a dozen collecters. All thought they looked vintage. Yes there are many that do not. So the supporters can continue to argue they do not and that it just happens, and I will continue to express my opinion that it saddens me that anyone with any concern about the hobby would be producing marbles that can AND WILL be confusing for future collectors. I believe it is detrimental to the hobby. I am done with this thread.

Actually Winnie, the pic is a mix of vintage and Sammy marbles.

might be a few in this group.

Enhanced pics can really help!

A huge collection and thousands of dug examples from almost every site might give him just a tad of credibility. And there were many other collectors at that gathering that thought they were vintage marbles. And not sure just exactly what your talking about Duffy but it sounds a bit like another personal attack. As for the Sammy marbles I purchased, they were purchased as examples that mimic vintage marbles. It is so sad that some folks just have to take the low road of personal attacks and just can't keep it to their opinions of the marbles. It really isn't that tough.

Actually Grandpa Wilcox lived in Akron at the time these ads were run. He knew the difference but worried about future advertisement collectors . He was a great man but had a few neighbors that said he shouldn't care about anyone but himself.

Mibs, you are not seeinga lot of the ones most likely to fool many folks. And did you read the part where they fooled one of the top and most educated west virginia swirl collectors and author. I would say with complete clarity that if he can be fooled 95%+ of all marble collectors can be fooled with many of these marbles currently being made by Dave and Sammy.. Of course I have seen thousands of them and 10s of thousands of the Vintage varieties.

looks like a messed up machine made William

Sissy, It is also an unwanted opinion to many that these marbles are nice and good for the hobby. I could repeat what you just said for the opposite side. Sissy there are many opinions we are not going to agree on. It is a free country and a public board. That is why we should all get to express our opinion with out personal attack. I thought you supported that. Or is it just opinions you agree with that should be posted??? No need to answer. This is supposed to be about marbles and folks opinions about marbles. Not whether we believe any one should post stuff we do not agree with. So actually I will repeat, Can't you just let go of it.(giving me a hard time for having a different opinion)

If people that restored marbles never left them out of their homes or signed them i wouldn't have anything against them at all. Problem is the restorers are just feeding the folks that are less than honest and there really is no control over what happens once they leave their possession. And lets be real, there are many many less than honest folks taking advantage of collectors in the chase for the almighty $.

What Games Were Played With Giant Marbles?
lstmmrbls replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
We never even used the boulders for anything other than throwing at stuff. I think decoration of some sort for the larger marbles is a good guess. i have a bunch of two marbles bags(the largest Vacor types) marketed by Tootsietoy and have no idea what a child would have done with them. -
It is just sad that people can not accept an opinion that doesn't agree with theirs. Enough said.

Even more, really?????? what is even more provoking is seeing run after run being made that consist of many marbles that can be and most certainly will be a major headache for future collectors. And you certainly do not have to read my posts or even comment on them if you do not like them. You can block me from your viewing(it is in settings) if I bother you so much you can't keep it civil. I have never said you shouldn't post or feel the way you do.
-
Just have to take it to a personal attack don't you?. The So duh and knight in shining armor comments really are not necessary. I do not believe I take shots at any one posting here?? Back to the subject matter,. it is the "mostly about" that just doesn't work for me. And there have been many posts about these marbles that I have left alone. It builds, I post. I do not expect any or all to agree with me, but I should be able to freely post another side to the story and my opinions with out taking personal attacks. And I really do not speak for myself only. Almost every vintage collector I personally talk with have shared many similar feelings. I just am one that doesn't mind speaking up. Why can't we just post with out the BS Ann. It was going very well up to your last post.

That statement is very practical. There are many colors, color combos and glass types that were not used by the vintage makers. The new aventurines are a great example And I have never said there is actual intent to deceive. But is there effort put in to make sure that there are not marbles made that will deceive. Is that the same or not???And I am positive no one is pulling marbles for sale that do resemble vintage mibs, This just sucks. It really is no different than all the cheap Chinese reproductions of vintage toys, cast iron implements and other antiques.(which has had terrible results in the collecting world) Sure there are experts and well educated collectors that can tell the difference but there is no need to make them. Oh wait, there is the same need as the makers of these marbles, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
