Steph
Listening to a "50's Pop" infomercial/fundraising show on PBS. Didn't realize how many of my favorites were from the 50's. Hey ... I was young then. (*cough cough*)

Steph
At least one lyric of that is different from what I remember from camping. One of the lines we sang was, "Silently flows the river to the sea; And the barges too go silently."

kbobam
There will be many people who don't 'get' this post. That's okay. You probably 'get' people that I don't. But those of you who were born with the 'Karen gene' will probably agree that it's unlikely there will ever be another singer whose voice turns you into a mass of quivering jello quite as much as this lady's did. lstmmrbls
I did have a thing for Karen. Here is one of my favorite singers and she still has it.
lstmmrbls
And one of the best duets ever sung. It always brings me to tears. Yes I said tears.
kbobam
I'm in the middle of this movie right now. ('Bells Are Ringing', with Judy Holliday, Dean Martin, and Jean Stapleton) Although I'm not a huge fan of 'musicals' overall, a nice happy one is a great thing on a dreary rainy weekend day. I am kind of crazy about Judy Holliday. She was a genius (literally!), and I think it showed in her acting. In this movie she's a telephone operator at an answering service. She has a very caring nature, and adapts herself to the needs of her clients, although her boss would prefer that she act like a robot. In the case of Dean Martin's character, she's always pretended to be an older woman, because she thinks he needs the guidance of a 'mother-figure'. Of course she winds up 'falling for him'! kbobam
Well, I haven't lied to any of my friends here yet, so I guess I'll stay honest now. I still think 'The Bangles' were great. The secret to really appreciating them is to listen to the 'B-sides'. I mean, 'Manic Monday' was okay, but nothing to write home about. And 'Walk Like An Egyptian' was just stupid. A good reason for the uncommon word 'insipid'. But they did some really good rock and roll stuff, as well as some songs which defy description. Here are a few I listened to tonight. I don't normally want video along with my music, but the one that has it here is kind of fun. I like the multi-generational retro approach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04HSg0YZi9E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlhRDpvaFFI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOd1lu_lo18
