Another Reg'lar Fellers connection to marbles is that the characters of that comic strip were suggested for the Peltier Picture Marbles, or comics, but they weren't known on the west coast, so they decided not to use them.

Additional note of clarification...Sample marbles with the original twelve characters were made in September and October of 1933. The Reg'lar Fellers were suggested as additional characters in November of 1933, but not accepted.

Hey Michael!

Good combination of Reg'lar Fellers, mentioned here earlier, and

the 'Picture' marbles mentioned in Hansel's other post.

I'm really enjoying getting historical facts about these, although I don't

really expect to ever own any. There's just something about them

that makes you want to know 'what's the story?'

Hansel!

Nice buckle, and terrific lighting and everything else in the photo!

Amazing detail and almost 3D depth.

Same with the Reg'lar Fellers pin/medal, but it's confusing me

visually/optically. Is that 'open air' around the stars-and-stripes

shield, or is it a textured gray area that looks similar to your background?

Also wondering if the stripes are painted or glass. Thanks!

That's a wild one!

If you don't mind my being a little 'out there', (never done that before!),

the design is very 'natural' and makes me think of many things. It could be

*out in space

*underwater

*under a microscope

*a fossil underneath the North Pole ( :

Bob,

Interesting that the background looks so much like that 'open air' you describe.

Here's a less confusing pic:

The stripes are enamel, which I think is powdered colored glass that is melted together with heat.

Thanks!

The 'focus' of the gray area in the first photo made me think it couldn't be the 'see-through' background,

but the 'darker to lighter' from the bottom to the top made me think 'well maybe it could'.

The red stripes really look like transparent glass. Nice piece! ( :
