The Alley Halloween, the whole family.

Ok, so we know the orange and black Alley Halloween. Not common. Then there's the orange, black, and white model... many of us know that one too. But did you know there are other members of the family? There is a previously unknown orange, red, and black, and a black and white also. These are all part of the same find. The orange, white, and black type just sold on ebay for over $200 and is probably as rare as the Carnival. The orange, red, and black is even more rare. So far, these in the following photos are the only known examples. Check these out, all found together, part of the same find just shown in two groups. The last 4 photos being my marbles from this find. Ignore the single foreign shooter.

Alley did sell all the above and all the above have been dug at the factory sites. The Carnivals have been found in 100 count Sure Shot boxes A year or two ago. The Halloweens all the color combinations have also been found in 100 count Sure Shot boxes within the last few weeks. The entire box was purchased by Nola at the recent WVMCC meeting.

I remember when Bill got the first five Carnivals that I had ever seen. It was at the WVMCC show in Vienna WV. Six of us were outside together. The seller had no idea what they were. Rick Hall and Kevin Plummer were asking me who made them ? Kevin thought Peltier, Rick thought Champion. Bill ask me and I said some WV swirl Co but I did not know which one.  Bill thought they were Peltier. So before Kevin Plummer or Rick Hall could buy them, Bill told the seller sold. At what we all thought was a very high price. Bill had to leave and go to the ATM nearby. He asked me to stay with and watch the five marbles. He came back and paid the seller. The seller found them together in a garage at Cairo WV. He was cleaning out the garage for a fee and or the contents. Bill said he could not wait to get back to IL to show these to Gino, Chuck G. and other Peltier collectors. Then after that he called me and said "Ron these are not Peltiers". I agreed and said they were from a WV swirl company. Just a few months later I saw three of the same which the late JIm Davis had dug under the Alley factory building at Pennsboro WV.  Jim Davis was the first person to ever dig marbles under the Pennsboro Alley building. Jim's son the last I knew still had at least two of those Carnivals. I also was a lucky man to receive a Carnival as a generous gift from Bill. It was my first one and will stay with me always.  A few more Carnivals have come into collectors hands.  When Bill dug the black and orange at Pennsboro he yelled out I am calling this Halloween. The just shortly after that he dug the black and orange cullet and then the  black, orange and white cullet and after that he found one black, orange and white marble. The next day I dug a black and orange which I held up and said a Halloween.

My gift Alley Carnival

Guess who took the picture of that guy above in the camo. He finally wore out and destroyed that camo. He had me burn it on top of a brush pile. He said it should stay in WV.

Now you have the rest of the story. A condensed version.

Like you said Ric. I also remember probably every few seconds of that. I remember exactly where each one of us were standing.

The fist time that I know of hearing Sunny Sky. I assume it is the blue base with white and yellow swirl. I have them but did not know they were named. It goes right along with the Blue Sky, Blue lady, and Stormy Sky(which you named), and Sunny Sky.   Sunny Sky it is for me from now on.

Honestly Ron, I don't think those marbles are named. I just called it a Sunny Sky because it seemed to fit and I knew that Bill would know which one I was talking about. Apparently you did too. When a name fits, it just fits, I guess.

I realize I made it sound like the black and white one is a type of halloween. I don't mean to imply that, but more that it is likely closely related (part of the family). It's a different black than the inkys and the like, different pattern too. I think they were run in close succession. Probably the contents of one of those boxes Ron, I agree.

Three boxes of early Alleys containing many halloween types were found by Nola Morgan (mentioned by Ron above) All contained several of these black and white ones as well. Since then Ron and I talked about them and he agreed that they were made during the same time frame. They've been referred to as Skeleton's for a while now, to indicate their relation to the family. Not any black and white Alley fits, the skeletons have a distinct look that separates them from the others. These are early Alleys, batch glass I believe. Here are pics of the three different sure shot boxes with them in them.

And here are some of mine up close. The two in the top right of the group of skeletons are not. They are other black or almost black and white Alleys to show that the difference.

Dang, this post gave me a stroke!

Ha, ha, not really, but I was replying to this last month when posted, because it was the first time I had seen these Alleys, and they looked familiar to me. Sure enough, I had one or two in my CAC box. However, as I tried to reply, I typed some misspelled babble that made no sense. I deleted it but wrote nonsense again. On the third time, I failed once more so, I went to the emergency room at the hospital. As soon as I was under their care, I had a mini-stroke for a few minutes. 🥴, I was OK within minutes, but they kept me overnight to be sure.

So anyway, thanks for the post and update, otherwise I'd always thought CAC for sure.
