William
Scored this nice oak China hutch for only $150 in Houston, MN at a someone's moving sale a few months ago. Let me tell you, it's solid! Almost broke my buddy and I moving it! An absolute steal though! Love the woodwork and velvet lined drawers 🙂 It filled up quickly as you can see! 1
William
Better shots of the stuff in the hutch...nice little mix of modern and vintage Mickey and Minnie and various assortment of animals by Fenton, Murano, Viking and others, along with porcelain, wooden, ceramic, stone, metal, and china figures from many countries (my favorites arethe raccoon, USSR; and the Fitz and Floyd Lions in each corner) 1
William
Foraging around on a rainy day and came across some of my packed away sports cards. Used to buy the "blaster boxes", now reuse them for storage. More plastic totes somewhere downstairs...
William
For the first time I'm a long time I went rock-hounding yesterday. What fun! Found a rock quarry back in the woods along the Upper Iowa River last week and saw potential, so we visited today and had some decent luck! Found a few really nice banded agates, some decent geodes and other crystals, along with some unusual oddities and a few fossils. Once I get them cleaned I'll post a few pictures. One of the local residents, a spotted sandpiper, didn't appreciate our presence. Unknowingly walked right up on her nest, which was superbly camouflaged amongst the rocks. She let me know with her whistles and her "broken wing display", a method they use to distract predators away from the nest. Here are a few shots of the day! 1 1

schmoozer
The wife has decided to start collecting mineral specimens. Joining the local USGS group soon. I have specimens from my grandfather, who was Dean of geology at UNM for 30+ years. I have his USGS 50-year pin.

William
Here's a few of the interesting specimens that I picked from that mountain. Talk about steep, and it's at least 50 feet up the sides, treading through mini avalanches of river rock. Gotta have quick eyes and hands to snap them up before they get buried again! A few really nice banders, a hunk of water agate I believe was hand worked into a spearhead? Squared on all 4 sides with an obvious point and base. A nice Geode before and after splitting it open, and what I think could possibly be a fossilized tooth.

William
Here's a few more pictures of that "spear tip", I think anyway. Also, a couple of views from on top of that crazy river rock mountain. It's nuts how far up I am from ground level and how long this thing is. The first picture is a view from one end and the second picture is from the other end. Actually takes a couple minutes to walk from one to the other! In both pictures you can see the ramp where the bulldozer gets up and down from. Plus here and there how high the sides are. At any point from the base it takes me about a minute or so to ascend! I've only began, on both sides of the road. In the second pictures., you can see the gravel mountain that is across the road top right.

Fire1981
Crystal is another interest. The candle holder which is now a crystal ball holder is from a glass Artist from Trondheim Norway. I met her there when my Dad taught at Trondheim University for a year and visited them for Christmas and New Years 1984.
