The flat side looked like it could be the end of a textile bobbin.

But with the bowl shape on the other side, I don't currently have a guess.

 

If it was a bobbin, I'd say the 10-52 meant it was made in October of 1852.

The last cool shell casings I have were from an AH-64 Apache helicopter that were fired during  Operation Desert Storm. They might still be packed away around here somewhere (I hope). Yours is pretty cool. If it's the correct light gun, 70ibs and 13 nautical miles range?

Looked into it a little more,  check out the USS Sherman. Guns I think matching the specs on that casing were mounted on its deck. Nice info there.
