Berryb
I got some Marbles today at a yard sale. Mostly slingshot ammo, but there re some that aren't too bad, but they have rust stains. Any body have a good way to get rid of rust marks? I tried Windex but it wasn't much help. Chad G.
I hope this link helps Bruce, thank goodness I've never had to go beyond "non abrasive" soap a stiff brush and soaking in hot water ?? Older marbles are generally made from some good tough glass & are pretty scratch resistant, I've heard just about everything. If I was gonna do any experimenting I'd use a cull to see what happens first. William
I tried using the scotch brite side of this dishwashing sponge with Dawn or Mr. Clean and had decent results. About as "abrasive" as I dared get.
William
Just now, William said: I tried using the scotch brite side of this dishwashing sponge with Dawn or Mr. Clean and had decent results. About as "abrasive" as I dared get. I should say that I was dealing with a micro-thin veil of rust 😊
akroorka
For rust, this stuff is the best that I have used. No scratches or dull surface from this stuff. Get the finest grit that you can. A little goes a long way. A damp Micro cloth with a tad of this stuff. The bonus is a nice minty smelling marble. Berryb
After looking at Akroorka's link I tried Baking soda. If my dentist is to be believed, it is actually less abrasive than tooth paste. It worked well on the mibs and left no dull spots, although they are not as minty fresh as I would like. akroorka
Great way to think out of the box Bruce---they do come in different scents however. Mint would be my fave. Minty fresh Marbles--On!!
Chad G.
I don't use anything w/ abrasives in it myself, no matter how light or fine. It may appear to have cleaned the marble and shined it up nicely at first but in actuality you may have "Polished" the mib. Under a 20 x loupe (or better) you can see the tiny circular microscopic scratches that it leaves just like the finest jewelers rouge does. A polished mib if noticed will only fetch a fraction of what an untouched mint surface will, some people won't even touch them.. I had a couple really bad experiences cleaning w/ a light abrasive, I thought I had made the mibs look new until I put the mag to them, Aaaaah !! I googled "removing rust stains from glass" and this is what it spit out. I've never tried any of these methods !! but as said "corn starch" is still a light abrasive so I might be little leery of using it ?? LINK : https://www.thecrownchoice.com/cleaning-guides/how-to-remove-rust-from-glass/ There certainly use some different methods on this site ?? When I was in the Navy in boot camp we used vinegar and newspaper to clean windows, so clean birds were running into the windows all day, but that glass had been getting cleaned twice a day for at least the prior 50 years, probably still is !!

Fire1981
CLR or Toilet Bowl cleaner worked on some of my Rust Buckets. Don’t ever put a Rusty Pelt Tracer in either of these. It eats the Tracer Ribbons. Ouch ! I lost one and that’s how I know. FWIW
