akroorka
I do not think that Akro made any of these gearshift knobs--ever. I am not a collector of these but I think that they were produced from many companies east of the Mississippi River. Marble—On!!
Carowill
My understanding is Akro never made gear shift knobs. I believe Houze glass made many of them.

Carowill
The L. E. Alley Father of West Virginia Swirls book makes no mention of gear shift knobs being produced by Alley.

There are many that collect gear shift knobs that post here--I for one would love to hear more about them. I couild never afford any one that I came across. The cross collectable thing was always a thing--kind of like radiator caps--I alway dug them--still do--too rich for my taste though. Marble--On!! wvrons
Akro and Alley never made any gear shift knobs. Some pieces and a few full ones were dug at Alley Pennsboro site. But he got them as cullet. I have seen them sold as Akro or Alley for 25 years, but they were not made by Akro or Alley. Quote

Chad G.
Houze and Vidrio both made glass gear shift knobs, there may be another (unknown) manufacturer but there is no record or provenance of Akro or Alley ever making gear shift knobs. Brock
Heres one with the metal part of the shifter still attached. Has some glow and appears to be a makers mark on the metal part. I would think that is not from the maker of the knob. 2

I always see them on eBay as Akro but I don’t think they made them. AKRO did make them, listed in Hardy’s AKRO reference book. Others also made them, but with a different profile. Need to dig out my book to list the details. I believe Houze was the other maker, using a round profile. AKRO has flat-sided panels.
Chad G.
Vidrio made several different electric cigarette and cigar lighters, some often mistaken for insulators as well, many were uv. Every one of these lighters I've found have been gutted with all the electric components missing.
