disco005
So this afternoon YouTube 'suggested' the video "The First 12 Minutes of MTV" and that got me back into an 80s music kick, my music as a teenager. I started a playlist, but I spent three hours making this list and I feel like I'm not even halfway there. Here it is: Kiss Me Deadly Lita Ford Close My Eyes Forever Lita Ford and Ozzy Silent Lucidity Queensryche Twilight Zone Golden Earring Pour Some Sugar on Me Def Leppard Panama Van Halen Don’t You Forget About Me Simple Minds Boys of Summer Don Henley The Final Countdown White Snake No One Like You Scorpions One Metallica Enter Sandman Metallica Crazy for You Madonna Lucky Star Madonna Live to Tell Madonna Never Heart These Dreams Heart Two of Hearts Stacey Q West End Girls Pet Shop Boys Wild Wild West The Escape Club Fight for Your Right Beastie Boys Gangsters Paradise Coolio Heart and Soul T’Pau We Built This City Starship Love Bites Def Leppard Once Bitten Twice Shy Great White Save Your Love Great White Keep Your Hands to Yourself Georgia Satellites Ship of Fools Robert Plant Addicted to Love Robert Palmer Glory of Love Peter Cetera Right Here Waiting Richard Marx Everything I Do I Do it for You Bryan Adams Summer of 69 Bryan Adams Heaven Bryan Adams Run to You Bryan Adams Red Red Wine UB40 Candle in the Wind Elton John Talk Dirty to Me Poison We Didn’t Start the Fire Billy Joel Piano Man Billy Joel Dancing with Myself Billy Idol White Wedding Billy Idol U Can’t Touch This MC Hammer Thriller Michael Jackson Careless Whisper George Michael Everybody Wants to Rule the World Tears for Fears Crazy for You Madonna St. Elmo’s Fire John Parr Neutron Dance The Pointer Sisters Never Surrender Corey Hart Sunglasses at Night Corey Hart Cruel Summer Banarama Venus Banarama Raspberry Beret Prince Material Girl Madonna Born in the USA Bruce Springsteen 99 Luft Ballons Nena Puttin on the Ritz Taco Sweet Dreams Eurythmics Rock Me Amadeus Falco Land of Confusion Genesis Take on Me a-ha Troy Sinead O’Connor Footloose Kenny Loggins Girls Just Want to Have Fun Cyndi Lauper Talking in Your Sleep The Romantics Self Control Laura Branigan Somebody’s Watching Me Rockwell The Warrior Scandal (Patty Smyth) Rock Me Great White Face the Day Great White The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Gordon Lightfoot Money for Nothing Dire Straits You Dropped a Bomb on Me The Gap Band Cum on Feel the Noize Quiet Riot On the Dark Side John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band Major Tom (Coming Home) Peter Schilling The Stroke Billy Squier Everytime You Go Away Paul Young Gonna Make You Sweat C&C Music Factory The Search is Over Survivor Obsession Animotion Better Be Good to Me Tina Turner Head Over Heels Tears For Fears Voices Carry Til Tuesday Would I Lie to You Eurythmics Be Near Me ABC I Can’t Hold Back Survivor I’m on Fire Bruce Springsteen Method of Modern Love Daryl Hall & John Oates All She Wants to do is Dance Don Henley Black Velvet Alannah Myles When I’m With You Sheriff Electric Avenue Eddy Grant Into the Night Benny Mardones Beds Are Burning Midnight Oil Break My Stride Matthew Wilder Too Shy Kajagoogoo Come On Eileen Dexys Midnight Runners Fantasy Aldo Nova Under the Milky Way The Church She’s like the Wind Patrick Swayze Harden My Heart Quarter Flash Always Atlantic Starr Don’t You Want Me The Human League Human The Human League It was definitely fun to search these songs and see some of the music videos again, but wow, blast from the past. Anybody else relate to this list? Or what was your preferred era/style/decade of music? I could probably sing 97% of the lyrics of these songs. Sorry for the length of the list! -Jess
Steph
It's too easy for me. Killing Me Softly, Roberta Flack. And the soundtrack to The Sound of Music. The list is easy for me because I didn't listen to much music as a kid. But I spent my 17th birthday up on a mountain playing The Sound of Music on my walkman. My brother introduced me to more music when I was almost 20 and he when he went against our parents' orders and set up a stereo in his bedroom and dug out their old records. But that's past the "kid" cutoff
disco005
I grew up in Alaska, so the radio was all I had. There were no live concerts coming to Juneau, Alaska back then I always looked forward to Casey Kasem top 40 Countdown on Sundays!
davesnothere
In my teens it was strictly hard rock , metal , and prog rock. Now after playing and listening to loud music most of my life silence is cherished 🙂
Fire1981
It’s crazy hearing Dire Straits,David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Steve Miller songs playing in my Grocery Store when I walk in. It confirms that listening to the “Oldies” confirms I’m 63. My Granddaughter skates to Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. She loves Queen and she’s 12. She busted out “Can’t Touch This” when she was 8 in one of her figure skating competitions. 🔥 RAR
