  1. I'm curious about your result. I've tried it a while back and was not satisfied, the effect of glass disappeared,it became very dull. Maybe you've more luck.
  2. Good information Ron,thanks. There is plenty stuff in this thread for me to think it over.

    Akro Swirl?

That middle one is nice Ric,if you didn't tell it's a dug Akro,i would think it's a nice Alley or other WV swirl or even an Euro swirl.
  4. You got it. I've no clue how old they are. I've found quite a lot of them here, read somewhere that they are called Gresmarbles and have been made in Netherland.
  5. Steph, ýours looks a bit like this one, mine is 1.2/8. I found them here in old groups.( it's 302 years old LOL)
  6. Maybe Steph's marble is also a clay Vacor? Here are 2 Vacors--blue/white is stone and 2 potteries. Here the children don't play with the large ones, they just collect them, the bigger the better. The largest is 2 inch.
  7. Thanks Edna,i've circled 4 marbles and one question mark, from which i think are CAC. I agree the others have a vintage look, but i'm not sure they are.,so i asked if someone could tell me which are the new marbles. Galen knows but he is done with this thread,i think thats a pity because i only want to learn.
  8. That's what i thought a mix of old and new Too bad. It would have been educational for all the folks you're so concerned about if you had stayed long enough to ID the marbles in the "mix of vintage and Sammy marbles" you posted I would agree what Ann said.
  9. It's always good to learn something,Galen you said, might be a few in this group,so the most are old swirls? They all have that old look, but the ones i've encircled (and one question mark) are at this picture indiscernible of CAC's,at least for me.
  10. No,i've not seen it before,it's a very nice one!! The cut off mark looks a bit like the first one,the blue/green one,Japanese isn't it?
  11. That sounds interesting, maybe you can post a picture?
  12. If i would gather old marbles for an investment, which i do not,i would sell all my old swirls, except those with characteristic traits of a particular company, maker.Just a hint.
  13. Don't know, this is the only one i have in this style.
  14. Yes actually i was thinking of a kind of error "hybrid",because i've found so many of the opaque ones here but not with 2 colors. I've found one other opaque one here with 2 colors red/blue,years ago you IDed that one as German, and the first marble seems to be Japanese. Here it is,maybe you remember it,it's 15/16.
  15. first one i 've found with this colors,1 inch
  16. The glass is,although a little bit darker the same as the French marbles. The glass also looks like some of the Akro's,such as the Ades and the moss agate,it's translucent milky off white.
  17. Yes,there is blue in the base, the almost transparant blue smears out over the white filling. There is a short straight line in the blue, almost looks like a cut off.
  18. They look a bit different from the average German handmades that i've seen, but i've not seen them all. Could be old, isn't it?
  19. Think you both are right. So it's a machine made patch from the 50s or older, not American made. Well at least i've something to think about, thats the fun of marbles.
  20. Have this marble as long as i remember,it's translucent 11/16. Years back it's IDed as not American made. It has something kind of like a pontil but if someone told me those are cold rolls i believe it aswell,on the white side there are several small asmade dents.
  21. Flyball, you are correct not all have very defined 9 and tails, correct again on your second question, not all have visible cut off marks (pontils). They have been made in different countries during a long time periode.I've read somewhere that they are actually the first glass marbles ever made, I don't know if thats true,i wasn't there. They have been made untill about 1950.
  22. ice Marble Winnie, do you have others. The ones I got off ebay were pretty rough. I don't really know much about them but I know mine were in the ground a long time as the majority of them were laden with crazing lines. I could see someone putting the calcium to e'm but not the crazing lines. Ronnie Got 4 of them years ago from Austria, then i never saw them again, they are well damaged. Ann,the beaded necklaces are "kool"{what ever that means LOL} they are lovely, are they yours?
  23. I don't know Galen,This bul- mold types,i got out of Austria.
