  1. Ric,most of the 2 seam Ger.slags have indeed straight stripes running from one seam to the other. IMO these are the younger types. I think your brown one is older. Galen,I could be wrong but i think these 2 seam ger.slags have loopings and some of them have their seams closed.
  2. Don't know if it's true but i read somewhere, when the hand mades arrived in America, that the pontils were a sort of polished to make them smooth. Or maybe they were polished in Germany, when they were meant for the US market. Anyway i didn't find them here with open pontils. winnie
  3. I don't know much about hand mades but till now i've always thought that a hand made with open pontils is a polished marble. Do i understand well that is not the case with this marble? They polished pontils at that time to look better to show? The strange thing is i've found a lot of handmades here in Holland, mostly rough grounded or regular but never with open pontils.
  4. Could it be a foreign mib? here's one that i found in Holland. winnie
  5. Here are some 1 1/8 inch Eur sparklers,i think these are the same as in post #8. winnie
  6. Nice ones Ziggy.I like the ones with the red stripes. winnie
  7. About the Euro swirls, they are from the 50s and possible made in Amsterdam-Netherland. I live in Amsterdam and found them occasionally here. There was a marble factory here. Besides the Euro swirls, there are made nice patches in Asian--Beautiful sparkler types made in Germany and/or France-- 2 seam slags made in Germany---2 seam striped opaques and transparant made in Germany---and hand-gathered slags in Germany. Germany has made probably cat's eyes aswell. And than i found here a lot of nice transparant swirls which are not made in America and are still a mystery for me.I think there are much more that i forget about. Here are some more Euro swirls. winnie
  8. It sounds promising an European marble site. It's a pity that so little is known about European or other continents (not America) machine made marbles. winnie
  9. agreed, they look pretty rough,(maybe it's the pic?). post 13 it looks blue and green, interesting! They differ from German or Japanese hand gathered transitionals. I've never seen them here in Holland.
  10. Actually it's orange Ric,the red and orange in this sorta swirls have often sparkling stuff in them. This one looks a bit like Jabo with all those colors,i think. I like this one,it has yellow-pink-blue and green.
  11. Thats a nice collection,i like the hand gathereds.
  12. is not!! It's machine made. I've found some Euro swirls with other colors than i usually find. I'll post some more later. winnie
  13. I'm with BJ,it's very hard to photograph real pink marbles,it turns out to be amber. I've tried it and with a lot of tricks i succeded. BTW Germany has also made pink 2 seam slags. Here's a German one,the 2 pic- are the same marble, the first pic- is the real color, made with tricks, don't ask me how,i forgot. Don't know if Roger's marble CAC or German is. winnie
  14. Yes they're called fig8. It's been said they're Japanese. They are at least 60 years old, maybe older.
  15. Thank jou all for looking,i,Ll put IT in my uneded marble box,or in he box wit new marbles, that i give away to children. Sorry for he fault writing i send this from my tablet.
  16. Hi Roger,I wish i knew,i've thought of Akro, but i've no messed up Akro's,so can't compare. here are some more views.
  17. Found it in Holland,it's 5/8 It's a bit translucent. It reminds me of the mineral carnelian agate. Thought of a new marble, but have never seen anything like it. Found it in a group of new and old marbles. What do you think? thanks, winnie
  18. I see what you mean Ziggy, the marbles with the guinea look, they appear to have one pontil. German handmades -single pontil clouds-??? There are marbles in that group i've never seen before: handgathered opaque transitionals with several colors. winnie
  19. Very interesting group. I bet they will look great after a bit of polishing HA HA. winnie
  20. I believe i never saw so many beautiful marbles in 1 thread posted by 1 person. winnie
  21. Asian...never thought of it,thats something we may never know. When i look at my swirls it strikes me that there are many differences (glass pattern etc). I start to believe there should have been several foreign manufacturers which have made swirls, just the same as the American machiene made swirl which have been made by several companies. The foreign swirls have been made before WW11,i found them occasionally in old groups in Holland. winnie
  22. Think they're all foreign. I'm always surprised how many different swirl type's have been made. and another one
