Great boxes Steph,it's a pity the pic- of the first box is so little.Maybe some onhas a bigger picture, sure like to see it. Here are some more "Japanes"ones. And maybe this one belongs in the Fellers box
-
Thanks Steph,no not real patches, well i don't know if mine are real patches. Like to start with the "Japanese"patches. I know they're older than 58 years cause they were among the family marbles. As you can see in the box they've made opaque and transparant base ones. Look at the form of the seams of this picture, they've similarities,in the middle opaque and 2 transparant. Here are some more transparants And here opaques

I Found These On The Internet.
winnie replied to Killermarbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Found this one last week at the flea market,it was in a box with new marbles,i had to pay 20 cents for it. -
Can't decide what my favorites are,but when i find this type here in Holland then i'm happy.
-
Lopacki, didn't read your post 1 very well and was answering post 6 LOL. Thought this topic was about the early bead trades, apparently it's about the German marbles that were made in to beads. Galen thats a nice site. Here's a site about the early trade beads. http://www.ezakwantu.com/Gallery%20Trade%20Beads%20Slave%20Beads%20African%20Currency.htm

The Europeans were the first who traded with South-Africa and India. It's said the Portuquese were the first Europeans who arrived in South-Africa. The bead trades began about 1500,the exchange was not only slaves but also for goods, such as,ivory-gold-coffe-tea and herbs.

This are old pic-. The first 2 are yellow cross through and white cross. The one bottom left is a 7/8 Japanese 6 vane cross through, right another 5/8 cross through. 4 color 4 vanes,i think Asian,it's the only one i have. This are 9 odd cat's. multi vane cat's eye and aventurine is a sort of pre. Here are some not so common cat's I had the idea that cat's have no monetary value?? anyway i like to take pictures of them. Steph i've a lot more of cat's pic- but don't know what you are looking for.
-
I'll look when i'm home in my photo-files,for cross through. Cat's with more value than others, don't know but i can post some that are uncommen in my experience.

Love slags, especially those CAC slags, they're so colorful, thanks for sharing.
-
You are so right Ric,i can hardly look at it,it's too large and that color does not belong in the canal image.
-
Yes suddenly it was here in the canal. I've read in a local newspaper, that it came out of France, where it was a sex-club and the new Dutch owner wants it to continue,i don't think he got the permission.

I believe there is some damage near the cut off-pontil of Gnome's marble, could it be a regular pontil?? Found in my box, this Japanese damaged one,it has a clear base aswell,a white swirl followed by brownish red,so maybe the clear base is not so unusual as i thought,it is the yellow swirl that struck me.

Reproductions And The Damage They Can Do??
winnie replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Ann,I don't think the Euro swirls "mimicing" Christensen, pattern and colors are different (for me the most importent traits for a swirl). Okay some of them are almost as nice as Christensen but totally different swirls IMO. About the German 2 seam slags,i really don't know who was "mimicimg"who,i know they were dug with old handmades,so who was first? For me it's not that important, they're old and thats important for me. -

Ann and Griff, the Euro swirls and the 2 seam slags are old and have history, you can't associate them with Jabo's or Sammy's that have that old look but are new. Ofcourse it's not fun, when you collect only American marbles and it appears that you have European marbles in your pile,if you are not satisfied with them, you can sell them to me.I like them very much and i like also the old American machien mades. -
No need to apologize, misreading often happens to me.Some times i have to read it twice LOL.
-
It looks like yours is a green transparant base with a white swirl in it,it's very common,i've lots of them. Mine is a clear uncolored base with an orange swirl in it. I'm curious if someone knows they exist, maybe with other colored swirls in it. winnie
-
Thanks Galen, did you or anyone else know that they exist and if so,are there also other colored spirals in a clear base?
-
but never have seen it before. Found it in an old group, most of them are Japanese transitionals. It's 5/8 has a clear base and the swirl is more orange than yellow in hand, has a messy sort of spidery cut-off. Your thoughts...
-
My fault,i looked at the pictures, didn't read the post, missed the yellow spiral. It's a jorkscrew.

Reproductions And The Damage They Can Do??
winnie replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
This topic is a "far from my bed show",however i was going through it. I still have my Steiff collection, what is worth almost nothing, after the Steiff company decided about 15 years ago,to reproduce the toys. It don't bother me,i still enjoy it,i know it's old and has history. How much i love marbles,i would never spend much money for a marble, come on it's only a piece of glass. I have no problem to spend a lot of money for a beautiful antique tin toy or even jewelry,to be honest thats because i know when i need cash,i can sell it ,get my money back and in the meantime i can enjoy it. When i started to collect marbles i made an agreement with myself, not to sell my marbles, only than when i'm done with it.Actually i hope my grandchildren will get them and enjoy them. Collect something and at the same time celling does not go well for me,we have a saying here,ÿou are your own competitor". So far,i've great pleasure in collecting marbles. -
Same marble first in a tent the other without,i was very dissapointed about the result, see how dull the one in the tent, the glass effect is gone.
-
Thanks William,my camera settings are already about the same as you suggest, only i like to do it manuel.
-
Waiting for better pictures, now i'm thinking a slag.
-
Your result is very good. I've tried it hard, cause i don't like the light dots on the marble but did not manage to make a decent photo. I have not tried it with a flash. Looking at your marble without the flash (they are much brighter than mine) i'm thinking my lights bulbs are not strong enough.
