  1. Thanks, I checked it out, not really the condition I'm looking for at this time.
  2. Size is not important at this time, as I do not have one for my collection. The condition is the main standard.
  3. I am looking for a mint Peltier Red Zebra to buy. Any one here have any? Email me your photo and price.
  4. I'll pepper these in the bunch of mibs that I am bringing down for you to look at. Let's see if you can find them in all of those juicy Alleys
  5. Mint golden rebels???? Heck six years ago $500 was a good price for a mint marble. I even know of higher prices for them. You don't see these very often, then throw in the mint condition, oh baby. See my posting SNYD, you'll hear / read more about golden rebs running wild and trapped for taming.
  6. Yes, this auction was posted on auctionzip and it was in Pa. As far as cost... There were more six or seven mibs that I did not mention, onionskin - mint, avertrine(sp) patch - mint, bumble bee with avertrine (sp) and more. I paid - ? gee my wife may read this.....let's say just a very small tad bit over $1000 for the lot. Honey if you see this .....I love you Don't worry folks, she is as happy with our new kids as I am. She even tucked them into bed last night, well almost that way or maybe it was me she tucked in. Heck I was as tired as a "one armed wallpaper hanger" when I got home. LONG DRIVE down and back ( 6 hours) plus worked half day, I know ain't marble collecting just a ball
  7. I will take some pics and email them to scoop, my favorite friend that helps a dummy like me. (SCOOP ROCKS!) I am sure they will get posted for all to see.
  8. Just thought I would brag a little, I hope you all don't mind. I went to an auction yesterday and during a thundering down pour with severe high winds, I bought two, yes two, mint Golden Rebels I have been wanting for one for over ten years now. I had one when I first started collecting ( 15 years) and I knew nothing. I had a guy offer me $100 for a mint golden rebel, which at that time I thought was a whole lot of money for one marble it was a leason learned. But now I have replaced the marble and got it's brother (or sister) to boot. Also, I got a mint and near mint + Superman, a burnt xmas tree that has blue in it, never seen that before! A mint Katchup & Mustard too. I am a happy camper today Let it rain, heck, let it pour............................................
  9. Thanks to all ! ! ! ! Keep the Alley pictures coming please. I am printing them all to keep in a note book to use to help me identify Alleys. I would have no way thought that some of the mibs I have seen in the pictures were Alley. Great Info......All of you ROCK
  10. Thank You! Your words should be written in stone. There are so many reasons why people collect or buy marbles, and to each his / her own. I am not really big on Jabo marbles, I have some, not all that desired. On the other hand I have a young collector that just loves them. The new marbles with all the color and flames really peaked his fancy. I am sure I will be picking some up at Sistersville for him. This is the eye appeal and desire he has, why should anyone have the right to tell him he is buying junk, copies, worthless marbles. I like all machine mades, some handmades, I have high end machine mades but it seems that my eye is drawn to Alley marbles. The point is, I collect for the hobby not the money. I think too many people worry about what they can get money wise, which is OKAY TOO. I am not putting this down. Can't we all just enjoy our own personal desires concerning marbles and support all those others that may have other ideas and view points. There is one thing and one thing only that joins us all and that is a "marble" let's keep an open mind to all in the marble world.
  11. I wanted to make the Cairo show, I found some Cairo marbles and I was looking to get some help with my Alley collection. I have put together a couple hundred mibs that I need clarification on, (If they are Alley or not) I guess I'll have to do this later. I will be hunting pigs and turkey near Florida on May 1. I may be visiting Jim King this June for some camping and fishing. Would you mind me stopping over to talk Alley? Or maybe you could visit us, we'll be at Jim's property in Paden City. Does Jim have your phone number? John Snyder (SNYD) I really need some more direction on Alley...............
  12. Howdy, I live in Sugar Grove, Pa. Just 13 miles south of Jamestown, NY. There are a few collectors in the Jamestown area. No clubs or groups that I know of.
  13. Can anyone show up at this show or is it a by invite only??? I heard of this show last year while at the Sistersville show. Is there a hotel around? Do they sell marbles at this show? SNYD
  14. [ If you are going to critique, someones auction, without, actually asking the seller, questions,FIRST,then thats a problem. Bingo ! Get the facts and only the facts. I am a quality manager for a major plastics company and here is what I tell everyone. I believe and trust GOD, all others bring data! We need to make sure the facts are accurate so we do not turn into a lynch-mob ourselves. SNYD
  15. A very old man, whom is gone now, once told me something that I still screw up He told me that even though you bake the cake and ice it with all the best intensions, you will more than likely end up with it in your face more than not. With that said, our thought process leads us to this; If the great people in this forum do not do anything to protect ourselves or fellow unknown collectors are we really true to the hobby? Is this forum not the place to provide data and facts in which we all use for our learning experience? Do we not (be honest now) depend on others to help guide us with the uncertain areas that we are unsure of? Are we (marble collectors) here to not only to enjoy the marbles but to make friends and discuss issues relating to our desires? Now with that said and the cake, I say, it's your cake and others will eat it too, so if situations like fakes come up anywhere, I think it is our obligation to alert the beginner, the unsure and even people like me to such things. If it is an ebay item, then hey, the seller would either do what the latest seller did and do the honest thing, or they will snap your neck like a chicken ready for stew. Either way it's our hobby and we must do what it takes to make it so hard to sell fakes that it is not worth doing. The hobby is what we make of it and I know that what we do will make the hobby survive. I know some of you saw the story of the little guy I took to Canton. Wht would he think if he saved his hard to get money and spent it on something he thought was real, then to find out he was taken. I know what he would do, he would loose interest and hide what had happened. In fact, I told him to start reading the posts here and to learn. This is what we do, we help others learn. So, I say, no matter where, what or who, if it's a fake it needs to be here ASAP. SNYD
  16. I would like to add my three cents. I emailed the seller through ebay and explained about the box and the conversations in this forum. He replied back quickly and I must say that the seller was very professional and respectful. Most of the time sellers get nasty and mean, not the case with this seller. The seller was open and very understanding. I commend his actions and how he has tried to take care of a situation he had no idea was brewing. I know many of you had been mistaken in things bought and sold, we have all mde these mistakes through our collecting career. I think sometimes we jump on the horse and start whipping before we actually get the whole / true story. This seller has been very up front and honest to what he thought and now that he has had input from many collectors (Professionals?) he has taken the input and taken actions to make thigns right. I was polit in my email to him and and he/she was very nice in the reply, THANK YOU ! The true source of these types of issues, is the person creating the bogus items. This is were the true contempt should lie. I feel bad that the seller spent money on this item in hopes to make some profit only to find out he has been had................let's give him some support!!!! Your Marble Pal - - SNYD
  17. Kim and I will be there. We may come down Friday night so we do not have to leave so early in the morning. Would you and your better half be available for dinner Friday night if we come down then? (Our treat of course)
  18. I was able to attend the Canton show this year, although a short notice, I was not going to miss it. I am so thankful that I did. I have several young kids and young adults that I have helped build self confidence using marble collecting as the basis. One particular boy had a hard time getting through the Child Welfare system and getting grasp on his feelings trying to figure out why mom and dad did not wnat him or love him anymore. He was terrible, he was in fifth grade and alomst kicked out of school. I started meeting with him and working on a collection of marbles for him. He was so intereted that he wanted to do nothing but learn about marbles, his ability to use a computer was not good, not that mine are much better, yet together we learned and he now does research all the time. Within one year after starting I was happy to hear that he was selected to be the Sixth Grade Graduating class speaker. He is now in ninth grade and the Canton show was his first show. It was so unbelievable. You have to understand where this boy was and where he is today to know what two of the vendors at the show did for him and how it affected him. One guy had a really nice silver Oxblood marble for $40.00. Richard pulled me aside and wanted to know if it was a good deal. I said to ask if the seller would take $35. He went to the table and in a shy unsure voice said, would you take $35.00. The seller asked him a few questions and knew that this was Richards first time and in a deep tone said, No, I'll let you have it for $30.00. To whomever this seller was "THANK YOU". We then made our way an hour later to a table where a seller had an onion skin, $20.00. The seller heard us talking and knew Richard only had $50 left, which took him awhile to collect ( Foster kids get no money from the foster parents), from working with/ for me and my wife. The seller said, hey if you by the onion skin for $20, I'll throw in this Indian handmade. WOW, it was a real nice one too. To this seller "THANK YOU" Both of these sellers made a huge impression on Richard and for the four hour drive home I don't think he put them marbles away for more than five minutes. We had to stop and show a couple of his friends and his old foster parents and some others, the trip is now into ten hours, but well worth it! This is the whole meaning of collecting, I truly enjoyed this show and it makes me proud to be part of such a group..Someday our old and worn out bodies will leave this earth to go to the marble land in the sky, I hope we all help someone younger to take over for us while we are gone. Thanks for reading (God Bless) SNYD
  19. Heck, I would offer a ten spot............ Just my opinion here, I have found the more mica the higher the price. Now add condition, if mint, you got one nice mib WOW, now you add the larger size and Ta-Da Your in the money! ! ! ! SNYD
  20. If you go into your account you can tell ebay about the item being fake, it may help. You can point out th emibs are not original and he has them listed as that. Maybe if all of us did this ebay would listen??????????????
  21. Thanks Smitty ! Off the marble zone..........Kim and I are planning a week of crappie fishing at Clendening Lake, in your neck of the woods. Do you have any knowledge of where to fish. ( Secret spots) It looks like we will be planning it for sometime in May (after I kill spring gobblers
  22. Can someone send the actual address of the hotel......I lost my info. I would like to be there Saturday
  23. [ Thank you Sue What more can be said, if only more folks were as kind. Keep up the great work. YOU ROCK GIRL
  24. Polishing is not the worse thing that could happen to a marble in it's life. Leroy did a great job! Maybe you can bring it to Sistersville, to show me his work. I have always felt that when a marble is dead due to it's condition it is the only human thing to do, give it a face lift and CPR, Like magic it is back to enjoy life and it has more time to bring joy to us humans who love marbles. I may be putting my foot in my mouth, so if this offends anyone, don't hack me to death over it I feel that the only people who fight the thought of marbles being "restored" are the folks that have a huge investment in marbles to sell for profits. Having a hot looking mib that was restored for $50 compared to an original for $200 tends to pull collectors to the $50 range. It is also what people can afford, people collect for so many different reasons that being original sometimes falls to the way side. I have so many people, people who that have been in marbles for years make mistakes if a marble is polished or not. So, who is the marble god to make the final decision on the life of a marble? Maybe we need a pit somewhere that everyone who has old chipped mibs can send them to be burned and buried so there are only original surface marbles in the world Let restored marbles free! Let them roam the world again, and see light of day. SNYD
  25. As bidder / buyer I can say that Ebay forcing us to pay by paypal or other systmes they selected is where I draw the line. I have seen a lot of mibs I would like to bid on but do not because the sellers payment method is "Paypal Only" I think sellers loose a lot of bids due to it. I do however email sellers that have a good mib I want to ses if they would take my favorite payment method - USPS Money order. Some do and some don't, the dont's loose my business. The easiest way to do business with folks and make money should be the main issue, but if paypal is required so be it, a lost sale! SNYD
