  1. It's part of the fun and sometimes frustration of this hobby. We are all always learning. Things change over time as new information and examples become available. In some ways, you are lucky as a new collector. Most old collectors have not only had to add information over the years, they've had to forget or modify information they've known for years just to keep up. I do take some solace knowing that the new collectors who stick with it will probably wind up in the same boat though. lol
  2. As I said, Dave, there was a day long ago when these were the only ones I knew as "muddies".
  3. I mostly display just bags and boxes. But I do have several "keeper cases" on display or stashed away with some my favorites in them.
  4. I've been using it so long I can usually open the right drawer on the first or second try. lol
  5. It may just be the old collectors who are confused. lol
  6. When you see me say "I'll have to check the archives" this is usually where I'm headed . . . And I usually keep my cat's eyes separate from the others.
  7. No kidding, man, I'm about ready to give up . . . lol.
  8. I'm pretty sure your marble is an example of why the term "muddy" has been expanded to near oblivion over the years.
  9. Pretty sure I've seen these referred to as "Cornelian Bricks" too, not sure I agree with it but . . .
  10. These are the first 'muddies" I ever knew about 25 or so years ago.
  11. Not too unusual, it sorta goes back to the discussion we've had in the past about poor examples, average examples and exceptional examples of any particular type of marble.

    Akro slags?

I am not sure who made these, but "9s" are associated with a variety of slag makers, including Akro - usually a sign of hand-gathered production. And a few different companies made machine made slags too so the lack of a nine would not automatically mean "Akro".
  13. So a Ruby Bee then - just a weaker example compared to one that's loaded with AV.

    Trilites?

    Yes, and dandies too.
  15. I am enjoying the show, Joe, and I'm interested by the ones with such well-defined two seam structure. It would be great if you could add "with Glasfirma" after KNUCKLEDOWN in your topic header just so this thread will be easier to find in the future - I'm pretty sure you can edit it.
  16. Have you checked to see if the clear-based one (lowest left) glows?
  17. Thanks, Joe. If all of these marbles came out of that net I would consider that pretty good authentication. Are they all from the same package?
  18. Nice photos, Joe. Are these all authenticated examples from Glasfirma?
  19. It's a tough call, which is probably why it took so long to get a response. This is one I would like to have in hand to have more confidence in an ID, since I could imagine a couple of possibilities. But I will say that the cut-offs don't look particularly Pelty to me. What does it look like backlit? Does light pass through it?
  20. Unless it's 1 -3/4" and contemporary. 😉
