I'd consider the German striped transparent a type of slag.
And I've seen this sort of "damage" on a number of old marbles. I think it may have been intentionally done with a file or blade of some sort to produce a thumbnail hold so the shooter could get better 'english' on their shots.
I believe you, Rick. It's like Art said, that transparent color is notoriously tough to capture. Putting it on a yellow background with good lighting might help.

Similar maybe, but I see a good bit of transparent orange in Art's. I have some like yours and as I recall they are opaque.
And these pics actually look pretty good compared to others I've seen, so whatever you're doing now, keep doing it.
