Rick's got it . . . commonly referred to as a Vitro Hybrid (5-vane) Cat's Eye because of the multiple colors - nice marble.

These may well be the most recognizable marbles on the planet . . . Sometimes you can tell which ones are UV reactive just by looking at that them and sometimes you actually need a UV source. 🙂

Hello Rob, Welcome to the Marble Connection! It's often tough to ID marbles from a single photo. It usually helps a lot to have a few different views of each. Your first one looks like a Vitro Caged (or Horseshoe) style Cat's Eye to me but it's hard to be sure from just that view. The second one looks mostly like a West Virginia Swirl from this angle - more views might help narrow the ID further. Size (diameter) is another characteristic that can often help.

I just thought I would add an interesting tidbit based on an advertisement that George S. sent me . . . In 1935, Meteors were Master Marble's most expensive at $1.50/hundred. I was surprised that Cloudies, Clearies and Sunbursts all sold for $1.00/hundred. All the prices listed were for No. 1 sized (11/16") marbles sold by the Seattle Hardware Co. - go figure.

I always check my clearies! At one point, when I had about 3 gallons or so that had been collected from many sources over many years, I actually sorted them looking for uncommon colors. I wish I would have catalogued them and kept a photographic record because a few colors were very scarce. You know though, I am getting older and I still have those and more, so at some point I might just get crazy enough to do it again. If I get to that point, I'll be sure to post the results - I'm sure y'all be waiting with bated breath.

I'm surprised there isn't a thriving marble collector's community in the UK. It seems like there would be lots of good old German marbles there. Nonetheless, I'm really glad you found us here at the Connection. I for one have really enjoyed seeing and learning about your collection, and I am hoping to see more from you in the future!

It's a good thing it's so unusual and interesting because it's pretty hideous, IMO.
