The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...
Ric replied to bumblebee's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
It's always nice to find"new" marbles - looks like there's a CAC in the second group. -
Good to see you here, Brian! There are a few photos of your work here on the site, but I sure would like to see more!

That is an beautiful display, David! How many years have you been working on it?
-
I'll stick with Marble King. Both equatorial ribbons are usually the same color for Type II Tiger Eyes and the patches are different colors. The seams also look MK to me.

Is this Akro an auger pull? Are they common? What makes one?
Ric replied to CharlieT's topic in Marble I.D.'s
Akro probably would have called it an Onyx (white spiral/colored transparent base). For an Auger (or Ribbon) Onyx (a collector/player name), the white spiral is like a flat ribbon that goes from the surface to near the middle of the marble - sort of like the auger blade on a post hole digger. Some people might consider yours an auger but others might want to see a flatter more ribbon-like spiral. -
Wow, that last one is really nice!

Nice Hermaphroscout!
-
The first and second may be JABOs and the fourth is a Heaton Sweet Potato or maybe a Ravenswood Green Raven.
-
These are mostly Peltier Rainbos, a few WV Swirls, and a few others, perhaps.
-
It looks like a Master to me, Melissa.

I like the base glass on those marbles - it's very distinctive, although Peltier made some Rainbos using very similar colors. The yellow/orange really stands out on that base.

I don't know if "emulate" is the right word. Master Marble was started by ex-Akro Agate employees who were determined to compete with Akro. So I imagine Master was trying to produce marbles that were more appealing or less expensive than the Akros that were already widely available. Nevertheless, both companies produced moss agate type marbles, some of which are nearly identical.

Grab that mower and head on over brother! I've got about 5 acres of lawn - you'll be in hog heaven!
-
I'm looking forward to seeing it, Art!

A few more Akros, just because my finish mower lost a wheel . . . Honestly, I wasn't really in the mood to mow the grass anyway. Unfortunately, the new wheel won't be here for about a week and I'll probably have to break out the bush hog to get through it by then. 🙁

That really is a great brown color on the first one. I Have a bit of a thing for Moss Agates too . . .

I'm glad you know I was just goofing around with the "interloper" comment, William -those CACs can be sneaky sometimes.
-
The Sparkler is nice but I'm a sucker for a good brown with yellow like the second one - great color combination, IMO.

The first is a CAC Striped Opaque, the second a weak CAC Swirl and the third is a CAC Flame, and a nice one at that.
