Is the art glass as a marble any different from the marbles being made in WV for the collector's market? Noone will play marbles with any of them.

I think the artist that did this is Michael Ricker. He does a collection of village scenes. -
Lunt Ave.marble Club Restaurant Matchbook-Cute!
Greatmacscott replied to mmuehlba's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
From a Dinner menu I have: "The Lunt Avenue Marble Club was first organized in Chicago by a group of carefree four year-olds as an excuse to get together and have fun. A quarter of a century later, a few of the original members have created another meeting place, hopefully with the same carefreeness of those days gone by. Years have been spent searching high and low, hither and yon (especially yon) for the vast array of antiques and other keen stuff you see adorning our humble hang-out. The stained glass alone is enough to legally qualify the Marble Club as a church in fourteen states. Yes, we wanted to make it the kind of place that you could bring your grandfather to and he would say "where am I?" Our world renowned Menu is sure to make you lick your chops!(and they'll have to be your chops, because we don't serve any.) But if you are thirsty instead of hungry, you're still in the right place. Ask for our pucker Partner Drink List. Folks who cab still speak after one of our drinks will tell you of the amazing therapeutic value of the magical Marble Club elixir. The Lunt Avenue Marble Club hopes our great food, unusual atmosphere and reasonable prices will make it the kind of place you would like to spend an eternity in, if you didn't have so many other things to do." The menu mentions three locations: Phoenix, Tempe, and Tucson. The cover has the same picture as the flower pot and match book. I have two different flower pots, a match book, shot glasses and a small canvas bag with 13 marbles. All have the logo with the boys playing marbles. A fun side collectable. -
Ok, Who won it? I would be willing to help pay for it in exchange for the lamp. I need the extra light in the marble room. Big bucks, No whammies! :-)

My Marble Display Cabinet (Finally) :d
Greatmacscott replied to Stefan's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I use rubber hose washers and O rings from the hardware store. Fairly inexpensive and the rubber O rings are less likely to move around on glass shelves. the are available in different sizes so even the smallest marble can be displayed nicely. -
Open Core Latticno, Would You Polish It?

I would leave it alone. As is, it is an unusual marble. Polished, it becomes a less than original marble and depending on how much glass has to be taken off, just another polished marble. -

How about the impact of an aging collector base: - less collectors competing for HTF marbles - collectors disposing of collections before it becomes a burden on heirs - fewer younger collectors without resources for high dollar marbles Anyone seen a spontaneous marble game breaking out on the school playground?

Making Marbles With The Grandkids This Weekend
Greatmacscott replied to Greatmacscott's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Had a blast this weekend. Imagine keeping a 3 and a 4 year old interested for about 3 hours. Too much fun. I almost feel like a real marble maker. Lots of experimentation. More failures than successes. Ended up with only a handful of actually, almost, close to, but not really round marbles that will probably crumble away to dust before long. Looked like patches and swirls. So many colors of playdoh and clay to play with. A few quick learnings on the Playdoh Sweet Shop: - Some assembly required. Even more if you take the thing apart to unjam the rollers :-) - playdoh is light and soft, sculpty clay is dense and hard. It jamed up the rollers. - The rollers are cheap plastic, they didn't break but they did bend jam up. - Don't give the three year old the mallet, he likes to smash the marbles. - Don't give the 4 year old the plastic knife, she likes cutting the marblesd in half. Fun with the Grandkids - Priceless -

Quick KC Show update - Almost 6 weeks to the show - Tables - Fifty tables have been reserved. anyone contacting Charles or I will go on a waiting list. If a table comes available, the first person on the waiting list will move up. If you are interested in a table, let Charles or myself know so we can get your name on the waiting list. - Hotel Rooms - Room Block is still open. We have been given priority at the hotel. The best way to make your reservation is to request whatever is available beginning on the lower floors and moving up. Each floor has a finite number of each room type and if everyone requests the same room type, one bed, two beds, suite, the group will be more spread out. As of yesterday, there is over 100 room nights reserved. If you made your reservation at last year's show, please call the hotel and confirm your reservation. Thanks for the great support we are receiving for the KC show. Letters have gone out to publications with community calendars within 100 miles of KC. We are expecting a great turn out for our show and Marble Crazy at the Moon in Bonner Springs. NOTE: The Toy and Miniature Museum will be closed for remodeling so the Larry and Cathy Svacina Collection will not be open for display at the museum. -

Thanks for the feedback and help. I spent most of today cruising the sites to learn more. Even sent a note to a "lanternist" to see what they can share.

Been going through some of the marble related items around the house and ran across these glass slides with marble players. They are the old 4" by 4" glass slides I think they are all pre-1940 but not sure.

I tried logging in and couldn't get past the log in screen. Watched a couple lots as a guest, saw mixed results. Work kept getting in the way of watching the auction. :-)

Reheated Marbles Are More Common Than You Would Think
Greatmacscott replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hey Jeroen, Two quick questions: 1. Are you planning on sniping this marble at the last minute after keeping the price down and driving away the competition? 2. When did you get appointed as the official Marble Police? I am comfortable with people sharing their knowledge on fakes, forgeries, and remelts as a general topic but when you start attacking individual listings of a seller with great feed back, don't you think that should be addressed in private between you and the seller and not by throwing a flaming goose over the public transom?
