Happy Birthday Edna!!!
-
Would this be considered NLR or just a Rainbo?

It is hard to tell from the photos, are the edges of the hole smooth or rough? If smooth, the hole was probably made when the bead was made. I once thought I had found a great marble til I looked closer and found the hole. Either way, yours is a very nice example.

Steph, I showed the box to Ron S at the WVMC show in 2009 and he said that a lot of the marbles looked like Alley to him. I can only say that I bought the box from Ray Collison and it is the same box shown in American Machine Made Marbles. Other than that I have no other knowledge of the marbles. Here are some photos of those marbles. Maybe Nancy Frier could shed some light on this if she sees this post.

Rich, I have one of those Alox boxes as well. Here is a photo of the marbles that came with it. I am pretty sure it is original as it has all the original paperwork and the shipping box it was sent in. Not a very good photo, but you can get some idea of the marbles that they made. I have included a shot of the price list that came with the box.

I don't know a whole lot about Benningtons, but I have had this marble for over 25 years. It came in a large lot of older marbles that I bought. It measures 15/16" and while not bright red it is red. Don't think this proves anything one way or the other, but it is the only red one I have.

Winnie, those are great photos of beautiful marbles! You say you get a lot of them there. How common are they and how many look like the ones you have posted?

I am very sad to hear about Weldon. I only met him once at the WVMCC show last year and liked him right away. He was warm and generous with his knowledge and will be missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to Edna and the family.

Don't know about the board, but the color looks wrong for Lapis Lazuli. Here's one I know to be Lapis, it looks darker than the ones in your photos. Also there will be gold flecks/streaks in Lapis.

Happy to hear that others are getting older as well. Hope your big day was wonderful!

Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I found this on a local web site and I thought it was too cool not to pass on. Photos of the same storm from a different viewpoint. Clouds look like something from a sci-fi movie.

Iding Machine Made Marbles Is A Tuff Call.

I have looked at pages of Wicked Owl marbles and can't find one that looks anything like the marble shown. Here is what I found. Is there another type called Wicked Owl? -
This is way off topic, but I thought it was interesting. S.W. Missouri made weather history today. And nobody got hurt or lost a home. We had a strange little storm here this morning, not much of a storm but some weird clouds that haven't been seen before. The U.S. Weather service has named them "Undulatus asperatus". Thought you might like to see them.

You can go to this site (babelfish) and get a sort of translation of that page. It is in Dutch. Just add the web address tell it to translate & you get a sort of translated version. http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt

And Now For Something Completely Different

Thanks Edna and Don, now I know a little more than I did. Hopefully Bo will chime in later with the complete story. It is always nice to know the whole history of an item. -
I found this while going through some old MCA newsletters and Marble Mart stuff. I have no idea where or when I got it. (isn't getting older a wonderful thing?) Has anyone ever heard of this place, or know where it is/was? There is no other printing on the matchbook. The back is the same as the front and the inside is blank.

Don't mean to be a wisenehimer, but wouldn't that be a whitey?

I think someone told me once that those little ivory looking things with numbers were from an old pool hall. They had a leather "bottle" filled with numbered balls that were used for some older pool games. The modern ones are plastic bottles with some kind of plastic numbered ball/shapes.

I am thinking the one on the left would be harder to filet!

Sue, I found almost everything I needed to know about fixing mine at this site. There are pretty complete repair and troubleshooting instructions there. Hope you get it working, the old EM machines can be pretty touchy. I find that lack of play is one of the main reasons they get out of whack. Those old switches and relays need to be worked regularly. http://www.pinrepair.com/em/
