I wondered if the same encasing could be done to a hand made, Rich what do you think?

I learned a new word today "docent". Excited to see the pics and hear any opinions on how it would have been made

I've seen that marble pic before and at the time I wondered if it could be "oven brick". It does sort of look like an animal figurine though. I don't know how a sulphide figure would end up in a cane cut marble, (ie: two pontils) but maybe somebody that knows more about making marbles can shed some light. I'm not saying it can't be done but curiosity is what makes me ask

What gave it away or was it determined "fake" of something in particular?

Those onionskin examples show lobes pretty well and yes certain solid cores are also good examples of the pattern. usually with a contrasting colored "ridge" on a white or yellow lobed core. edit (some divided core swirls can have what look like lobes as well, most of these are solid cores with 3-4 lobes. note: the outer layer of fine yellow or white "strands" are what makes them non-"naked" examples.)

edit The one in the middle is a naked solid core since there are no outer bands or layers.

Sometimes (most times) a really clear glass in a handmade marble makes it more collectible but there are some really bubbly ones people like as well so no I wouldn't say it's a flaw unless trapping air or having the glass too hot is considered a bad thing. A few contemporary Artists purposely trap air in a marble

You lost me on the configuration/colorway. Does that make it a divided core or double ribbon by that logic? Either way it's good example of a non-"naked" marble due to the outer yellow bands

Naked core to me means no outer bands/layers or decorations, just whatever's going on in the middle. Like a solid core with no outer bands, or a ribbon core with no outer bands, etc.

Oooo I see a couple I like too, nice group. On ones like Post #12, that sort of pattern could be from near end of cane if not end of cane (or beginning of cane depending how you look at it). Is there a pontil on the end where the pattern is unfinished? The wild one in the first close up looks like the cane started to deform and was rolled over on itself. It probably started off as a latt core with colored outer bands. Don't see that pattern too often but IMO they are some of the grooviest looking marbles.

I didn't find them but found this pic I took earlier, I think the blue might be close (yours obviously has a lot less opaque white.

Hard to say Winnie. The glass on your marble is very clear and also striking color and pattern. I packed away a couple like this the other day I'll see if I can dig them out for another look. I see what you might be seeing as well, some Peltier marbles do have patterns that look similar. If you have this in hand maybe you could describe what's shown dead center 1st view and 5 o'clock, on the view to it's right. Is it a fold of glass, or...?
