  1. Wow, white clambroth with black lines is a nice one. You're right though, it's question that has many answers
  2. Yep, definitely a nice marble. The amount of twist, colors, clear glass, and how thin the core is (razor) would make it worth a premium. Like mentioned earlier all it takes is two interested people with deep pockets to drive a price up.
  3. Here's what I'd consider to fit within the definition of submarine, as it applies to Pelts. Other types posted in this thread (green base etc.) I don't think I've ever heard the term applied to. Not that 'Pelt submarine' makes much sense to begin with
  4. Nice marboman! Some of those look like Pelts and some I couldn't bet on (it's tough to tell from pics, I know). 1-1/16" Pelt slag would be a pretty big Pelt slag, and the 1" Rebel might end up being more of an Alley than a Pelt, but who knows
  5. Man, unique marbles like this is about as good as anybody could ask for from a handmade. Thanks for the pics, it may have been some tough bargaining, and from the sounds of things there's still some nice 7/8 exotic onions floating around too! It's encouraging to see that examples like this exist. Awesome.
  6. Not sure what happened here. Looks like a 7/8" hand gathered slag that didn't get along too well with the machine that tried to round it
  7. Lol nice pic. You're not too far off, those even look like marble "canes"
  8. The density calculations are a good start. Still relatively light at 1.4. Some type of polymer is my guess but I haven't seen one. Is it really a paint coating? To get that pattern, the construction (how the surface bonds to the core) might tell more about the material than the density. Paint doesn't stick too well to some polymers.
  9. Those prices are probably 40 years old. Just goes to show things change, I'd think a parrot would get a better price than a donkey nowadays.
  10. There's a price guide in this old book. donkey and bird both listed. If only! lol
  11. I've only seen the term applied to a Peltier, if it has a translucent blue base and orange-y yellow ribbons like some examples shown in this thread. Backlight the one in question from the first post and tell us what you see (getting a back-lit pic can be tough).
  12. Nice marbles , one of my favorite patterns too. you should let them out more often...
  13. Dan, glad to see you lol -ing. I think you've got some decent marbles there. If you can work a scanner, it's pretty close , but your latest pics are looking OK!
  14. Would you entertain a digital camera in trade for some of the marbles posted?
  15. ...of the first two marbles posted, I meant. lol. Regardless, marbles posted in your second group look pretty much hand gathered to me too, you obviously know what a pontil looks like, right?
  16. I'd venture hand gathered on the second marble re: bottom row middle. Maybe on both actually. Nice marbles.
  17. Which pic has the cut/shear mark on the second marble? Is it that circular mark on the bottom left pic??
  18. Alan, that's the type of controlled pattern I mean. Is it a trade secret or how exactly does the bubble make a non-bubble shape. Almost looks like a "sprue" on the B. Those are awesome marbles by the way.
  19. A lot of German handmade marbles had air bubbles in them too, usually following the path of the pattern. I'm curious about some of the contemporary air inclusions in the form of a ring. I wonder how those get made. Same with the birdcage marbles.
  20. Is there any transparency to the green glass? Hard to tell from the pics if the lighter/darker areas in the green are from "depth".
  21. And another three. 3 best x 3 rarest = 9 bestest so I figured I might get away with 9 total mibs. lol. I make up my own math sometimes
