  1. I was hoping you might give us a review. Helpful to hear from someone with fresh eyes.
  2. Marble books are like Lay's potato chips ... nobody can eat just one
  3. American Machine-Made Marbles covers a lot of history and has a fair amount of photos. Popular American Marbles by the same authors has a lot of photographs -- was disappointing to some because of how the publisher did the photos -- yet has still received a good word recently. And Everett Grist's Big Book of Marbles, the recent edition co-authored by Lloyd Huffer, has some nice sections of marble photos identified by company. ^^ that's my off-the-cuff summary of this Mike's thread from a little while ago: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/23014-a-good-marble-book The list of names has been growing rapidly recently so they haven't all made their ways into books.
  4. Uh oh ... now we really need him to check in. Hope he's okay.
  5. Agree. I _think_ it would be an Alley Ghost? Can you confirm?
  6. Nice to start with a family keepsake. Lou, the site owner, is from PA also.
  7. I'm a very lucky lady. Marble mail from a friend .... a new batch of marble photos and marble ads to go with the rest of the photos and ads and magazines he has sent me as he has digitized his collection of ephemera. love, love, love
  8. I'll stick with Vitro. I'm not sure which decade. 30's, 40's or 50's.
  9. "Transparent Swirl" .. in the WV Swirl family I wouldn't try to name a specific maker.
  10. It's not what I hoped, but I'm still thinking early Vitro.
  11. Now we're seeing why it's best to just do a few marbles per thread. Some are definitely gonna get lost in the shuffle, but I'll do my best!
  12. Top right is a Vitro helmet. Top left is a Peltier Rainbo. Near the bottom, just to the lower right of the Moss Agate. .... that could be an interesting Vitro down there ... tan, green, red ....
  13. I'll leave this for the swirl guys. With those flames I might guess Alley.
  14. I'll stick with Akro here. Moss Agate.
  15. I'm getting a Vitro feel from this one. Might help to see the other end.
  16. For this one, we see Akro Corkscrew without needing to think about size. Sometimes a little smaller size might be a clue with a WV Swirl. And if something is larger than 3/4" then that seriously limits who we might think of having made it. If a WV swirl is coming in near one inch, you can be pretty sure it's Alley. But Akro corks can also be one inch. As were a few other makers over the years. Vacor is well-known for making large swirls in the modern day.
  17. That is a "lined crockery". Also known as a "jasper". Popular marble. Not that easy to find. I'm sure I have one with blue. Not sure if I have one with both green and blue. Used to have one with blue as the base and white lines, but sold it. Won't sell the next one I find.

I'll go WV swirl on #1 ... and maybe someone else will recognize that brown stripe and come up with a company name.
