  1. Totally meant to be! .... I hope that's what these are
  2. That is gorgeous in the close-up views. I'm seeing Akro Corkscrew pattern there. So that's my vote. Akro Corkscrew. The colors seem like they might be an uncommon combination ... maybe someone else can weigh in on that.
  3. Hmmmm ... the color is Carnelian, but I don't see it as fitting the patterns of the marbles which are officially called "Carnelians". These translucent and transparent swirls are less likely to get ID's. More views might help someone else, but I'd probably put it into a general swirl box and leave it there while I worked on other IDs.
  4. Okay, this is weird. The colors say Akro. The pattern is strange. Could be a rejected marble dug from the Akro site. Where in West Virginia did your grandfather live?
  5. Maybe an Alley Tater or Tater kin: http://marbleconnection.com/topic/9467-alley-taters
  6. I think we may be looking at more nice Alleys.
  7. What Winnie said. Both of the names she said apply.
  8. Ann, do you mean the one on the front left here as looking like an Akro cork? http://www.carolinefentonphotography.com/Albums/FENTON-MARBLES/i-MP97F46 Yes, more pics of that one would be good. Caroline, that could turn out to be an Akro cork with a nice number of loops, or it could turn out to be a Peltier Broken Cork.
  9. When I first saw them, I thought they stood out among all the other distinctly old marbles in the group. Then when I saw a second photo, I could see them being old, and I really hoped they would click with someone. But now ??? If none of the Alley or CAC people recognize them, I guess maybe we need to move past them for awhile and concentrate on some of your easier to ID ones.
  10. Stunts seem like a good idea for drawing attention.
  11. Ohhhhhh .... those are stalactites ...... ! I thought they were tree tops. The mouth of the cave I saw as a farmhouse in the distance.
  12. This says for Steph but I won't be stingy with it! (Help!) http://marbleconnection.com/topic/21654-black-and-orange-for-steph/
  13. The big one is the one I'd most likely think of as modern if I saw it standing alone. For that one and the others which look like a matched set, I'm going to wait for some of the Alley and Christensen Agate people to see if they recognize them as one of their own. *entering lurk mode*
  14. Thanks. I get an Akro feel from this view of the lower left one. The larger one also stands out as different -- more views could be helpful for that one. I'm going to wait for some of the others to comment on the main group of swirls. They look older than I first thought .... but I can't quite place them. Seems like something someone else might quickly pin down though.
  15. That's pretty funny. It's meant to be.
  16. I'm about to run out the door so I posted that answer quickly. I'd usually like to ponder more over a swirl ID, but I feel pretty good about that one. Really nice to have so many of those.
  17. I think these are special Alleys. Alley is one of the companies who made what we call West Virginia Swirls. I think I can comfortably say yours belong in the Blush Line. http://marbleconnection.com/topic/13019-alleys-blue-skies-and-blush-lines/ "Lady Taters"
