Soooooo ... now that we've knocked about the definition of WV swirl, what does anyone know about larger sizes? A Ravenswood article claimed they made large marbles, but does anyone have any? Recently we appear to have established that Champion made some shooter-size marbles. Does anyone have any they might share?

Can you paraphrase? Did Al include any modern swirls in his explanation for what a WV swirl was?

Could they have been leftover Heatons? (Of course I would call them WV swirls.) Edit: When the Bogards purchased Heaton the purchase did include some old stock. Some of the old stock was already in bags and the Bogard label was stapled over the Heaton label. But I gather some of the old stock was not already backed with the Heaton label.

I wasn't aware that Bogard made any swirls. I was only aware of their cat's eyes, chinese checker marbles and industrial marbles.

What did they say?

Uh oh. I defer my answer until after I find out if most people include Mid-Atlantics as WV swirls.

I don't know whether others consider modern Champions to be WV swirls. I just can't imagine not including them, so I do. I'm not sure what others do about modern Champs. And I don't now if others include Mid-Atlantic swirls in with WV swirls. Beyond that, I only knowingly include marbles actually made in WV. Amsterdam swirls are made in Amsterdam, so they're not WV swirls. Vacors are made in Mexico, so they're not WV swirls.

The cut-off line for "modern" is usually 1970.

I wouldn't even in a joking way consider including Vacors as WV swirls. Sometimes if I want to get philosophical I might muse about the WV influence on Alox or on European swirls or even on Jabos. But when I say WV Swirls, I mean swirls made in West Virginia. Alox only gets included in that sometimes because I can't tell the difference between the Alox swirls and the WV swirls. I count Champions as WV swirls no matter whether it's vintage Champion or modern.

The style name for the Vacors is "Fiesta". Vacor Fiestas are a discontinued style.

The top one looks like an agate. Actual stone. And it looks like it has moons, so I bet it's an old one. Could have been some boy's shooter 100 years ago. The bottom four marbles look new. I think they're Vacors, from the last 15 years.

I don't think it is a corkscrew. Akro made the corkscrews and I don't think that is Akro. Could be a neat Vacor with an unusual structure.

Mine from this latest run are still plus-sized ... in the neighborhood of 11/16".

You gotta save some marbles out of all of it? Now you got me wondering which ones would be the last to go.

Microwave custard

Ugh ... took apart the plumbing under the kitchen sink. Much twisting was involved -- used both hands. Elbow felt fine last night. But overnight it became inflamed again. Yum. Is this what arthritis sufferers live with on a regular basis? But in positive news, four days ago I ran my first straight mile. And two days ago I ran my second. Booyah.

I have some nice boxed sets I'm planning to post soonish -- always struggling with my picture taking skills -- grrrr -- but they're sweet sets and I still plan on doing it even though Rich is doing such a good job keeping up to date with his photos of the runs.
