  1. Here's an Alox bag posted by Mike (Runner's Dad). I believe they were a gift from Nancy Frier, granddaughter of the founder of Alox. I also received a bag from Nancy but Mike's pic is better. :-) Here are some mibs from the basement of Nancy's dad, if I recall correctly. From somewhere in his house I'm certain! They came from the Alox factory before that. Big sunbursts, Paul Bunyans, and cat's eyes. The cat's eyes were bought from another company - or maybe were samples from another company. Alox did buy some cat's eyes for packaging under their label. Thing is, I have seen some of those big ones in a Master Glass bag. I'm keeping my ears open for any more info Ron Shepherd and Nancy have to shed on the matter. Alox research is ongoing if I'm not mistaken. I look forward to the next chapter.
  2. Actually started to salivate when I opened that thumbnail. TMI? Well, they're yummy! lol
  3. I've been googling for instructions on how to make some of my own . . . so far no go.
  4. it is cool but i was confused. It's so different. I wondered who this jack and linda were that you were thanking. I thought they had some pretty cool glass. yeah, I know you're Jack - that made it more confusing - that there were two of you Jacks who liked glass. (hey it was late)
  5. Myth busted! I love it! That's one fantastic tiger eye.
  6. That's my kind of collection, Gene. Nothing like knowing what you like and going for it! What a show everyone!
  7. That is a gorgeous green, Dan. Lots of amazing mibs in this thread. No intention to slight all the rest. Just gotta say Cool Beans to this:
  8. Is this a private party or can others duck in to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY BO Oops, didn't mean to yell. Have a great one Bo.
  9. Sharp hooks! How about some Pelt Sunsets I ran across at the Morphy site today. ;-)
  10. Cool! I saw your flower pix and was hoping we'd see some mibs too - but didn't wanta pressure you. ;-) The flowers were great. :-) Akro sounds good to me.
  11. well, I'll add a happy birthday too. Don't know Digger, but your post made me take a look at his profile. Runner's Dad oughta get in touch with him. Same area. Both with an interest in Alox. Pretty cool.
  12. I'm not sure what the source of that pic is, but I've asked about it before too. When I was first learning about the modern fantasy boxes. And yep, that's what those are. Cute little modern boxes.
  13. yeah, that place is always under construction. dangerous ;-) not sure what I have in there on fantasy boxes. But at least a little. I know I put a fantasy section in the Original Packaging thread. But some of the original links I had there became defunct. Maybe I'll have a look at that today.
  14. Some are made to deceive. Some are made for profit reasons but not with an attempt to deceive. Some are made as tributes or simply as a nice place to keep one's marbles. Not sure I understand the 2nd portion of your question.
  15. I also have thought the reject ratio seemed high. Been hard to keep up with the discussion I don't want to misquote anyone. Will make a stand alone statement that my general feeling has been that incidence of out of round and dimples and cold rolls for the contract runs seems higher than I would have expected the ratio to be for most of the marble companies of say, 1930 to 1970. I'm under the impression that Akro had a high rate of rejects when it first started because of Horace Hill's faulty machine design, but then with Early (was it?) they got better. But does anyone here know the success ratios of the various companies which were around before Jabo? I was pondering the subject of Jabos I've seen which I might have valued at more than $20. Since it was David's question and he has signed out of the discussion I might wait until another day to post them. Some of the better flames are what I have in mind. And some with nice lutz.
  16. Yes, I was missing something. So you are asking in a general way about transparent colors on CAC's? I thought you were describing the colors on your marble. Didn't see red. So wasn't sure.
  17. Your subject line mentions "red". Wondering if I'm missing something.
  18. The auctions are over. Gotta say wow again.
