went to one of our antique stores this morning and took some photos you might enjoy. Also, if interested in Chinese board, they would come down 50%, let me know and I can get you hooked up. Unfortunately, the metal Metal Bingo game I saw a week ago was gone.

The interchangeable necklace, would like to have one of those. Item description: "....to fit your mood or attire...". Some days, I'd need to wear multiples! Anyway, I think it's cool. LOM has quite a few too, but much more expensive.

I like the marble the marbles are sitting on too! Pretty backdrop.

Thanks Ann. I get confused when I look at the possible hybrid. The middle color is red, it is not brown. However, every hybrid picture II've studied seems like the 3rd color is on the outside. It goes thick 1st color, thick 2nd color, then 3rd thin color. That's what makes me doubt mine. It's thin in the middle.

I'll check sunlight tomorrow and hold back the possible yellow based until keychain blacklight arrives next week, with show-offs, and with calipers.

From inkspotantiques.com: However, most cat's-eyes you find today at shops and yard sales will be foreign made, and the base glass strongly tinted green. and this: (I've already read bits of the below from you experts here!) note blue comment below. The key cat's-eye marbles to collect are the unusual varieties, like those where the vanes of one color cross the plane of another color. If you look at multicolor cat's-eyes, almost all will have the colored vanes in "v" pairs. Cross-plane cat's are rare and valuable. The most valuable of these are the “St. Mary’s” cat’s eye of Marble King, made at their St. Mary’s, West Virginia Plant before it was destroyed by a flood. Other cat’s eye you should collect are "hybrid" cat's eyes where there is more than one color on a single vane. The best of these are the 3-color frilly vane cat’s eyes by Vitro Agate. Look out also for rare colors, marbles with adventurine, three color nine vane cage cat’s eyes, and marbles with a colored glass base (blue is most typical).

Thanks too Ann! Peltier says only the Root-Beer-Float banana-type has a tinted base, amber. LOM has a waiting list for Bananas. Hmmmm.

thank you again Stephanie. I appreciate your time.

The cat pictures, terrific. I love photos of cats caught being unsophisticated, as must as I like 'Far Side'.

Hi Trista! You're just a bit newer than me.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain Mark Twain was brilliant. Check out Brainyquote.com

Pretty. They look so shiny. A cleaning cloth of some sort?

Do you know how lucky you are to get to take those pictures? If you want to help her out, you can also take your dryer lint and lay it around. In the spring here, I take an old produce, mesh bag and put dryer lint and dog hair in it and hang up the bag.

Saw gregg11's original post under 'Upcoming Shows' and want to see if anyone here is going. I am. First one! Thinking about checking out in-room trading Friday night and staying for show on Sat.

Thanks Steph. In looking at the Jabo link, I see colors in their marbles that I don't see in mine. Also, the Jabo white is, very white. Especially, the greens and reds are different from mine. My collection can only be confirmed that it predates 1976, the year I acquired them. So, in keeping with the color differences, that may help me next time I'm shopping. That really helped. Time and experience will help too.

I don't know if I am allowed, but I will try next time. The game I posted in 'Just for fun' today I copied and pasted from Google, but that's the one I saw at the store. I'll note price, owner, and get a picture next time I'm there in case anyone here would like to own it. Going to look at your hyperlinks above.

Hello, Does anyone have a good picture of two of similar marbles where one lot or 1 marble is new and the other is older? While at an antique store yesterday, I saw some jars of marbles. To my newbie eye, they just looked too perfect, even though I have seen similar patterns and colors in my collection. I guess I could have taken the step to inspect for seams and points, but can you really tell just by looking in a jar without opening the jar? My other assumption is that if they are in a reputable antique store, then the vendor has already picked thru them. Thank you.

Stopped at one of our antique malls today after work and spotted an old game called Mable Bingo. Narrow, about 12" with a zig-zag thingy in the middle. Should have asked to get it out and take picture. Also saw 2 carpet balls, $9 a piece, not a ding on them so passed them by.

what kind of marble is that? love it.

Oh my gosh you are lucky! And all the hummingbird species west of the Rockies....it's not fair! I used to manage a Wild Birds Unlimited...do you have that retail store where you live?
-
thank you both! LandOfMarbles offers a couple dollar model caliper and I'd like a little pocket size black light. The light really can show the truth in things. I also posted my pics of my marbles on my personal FB page and it's so cool, some of my friends with 'jars of marbles' are coming out of the woodwork! Indiana will be the marble state!

Hi, Are plastic calipers sufficient for accuracy? I do not own any measuring devices, but am considering them. Thank you.
