Nice finds. I scoured our monthly fleamarket on Sunday and found a few marbles - yep Vacors and Asian Cats eyes younger than me but being sold as vintage... One day I'll find some in the wild
Those are great examples of blowouts (or unfortunate ones...) . Several of my Rainbos, have smaller ones, including those out of a pack. Are they found on the older lines as frequently as the newer ones?
Thanks Steph. I've only got a small number to compare against, and most of my Pelts are the later Rainbos. I'm seeing more surface bubbles in them than from other manufacturers. It might just be sample variation.
A third one - seemed best to add to this thread for comparisons.
Base glass looks very much like the first one, ribbons are much wider and seem to dive into the marble rather than flow around it.
Alley again?
Steph suggested Pennsboro for the first but I'm struggling to see the differences between Sisterville and Pennsboro - any tips?
Those are lovely Jerry.
I'd still argue that the glass quality doesn't tend to be as good as say Akro or the patches and ribbons as strongly defined. I love the Peltiers I've got but there's a simplicity about them.
Yes the origin's easy, but how many is 'many' and what do you term multi-coloured threaded - non-onionskin marbles if they've only got four or five colours? Distribution of colours seems to be a factor for some people.
Limited experience here - but I've got a few hundred cats eyes now and based on what I've acquired I'd go Vitro. Plump is a good descriptor - there's something quite Phalaenopsis orchid like about Vitros to my eyes.
How many companies made this style? Heaton appear indistiguishable unless they're one of the odd ones that have darker/coloured tips to the vanes (and I don't know that they're unique in sometimes having that) I agree in terms of numbers Marble King is most likely. I need to get more Heatons so that I'm not trying to look at them through scuffed poly-vinyl
Also Alley? More orange in the red and spread a little, but the swirls are still very fluid, and the base glass has the same almost woodgrain pattern in the white:
Needs a clean...
Thanks.
