Academic Archaelogical Marble Question
moremarbles4me replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Another book you may to read is "Chinas Hand Painted Marbles of the Late 19th Century" by Jeff Carskadden and Richard Gartley. This book goes into some detail of their research and dating of marbles from digs including privy digs. Also I agree with what Duffy said in the previous post about talking with collectors. Next month just north of St Louis is a small marble show in Hannibal(you can get the show details in the upcoming show thread). You can sit down with collectors who would be more then happy to tell you what they know or think they know. LOL You would also be able to examine what they have for sale and look at part of their collections that they may have brought along for display. There's no better way to learn marbles then to hold them in your hands. Charles -

moremarbles4me replied to moremarbles4me's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I'm not sure what they sell for but we'll find out pretty quick I just listed that one on Ebay. I got three of them in on consignment and I think that one is the best looking of the the three. Charles -

The label says it had two dozen boxes in it. The person I got these from also has five of the five counts boxes that were in the box but I could'nt afford those tonight......sometime in the future. LOL Charles

This evening I got an original Peltier packing box for the five count comic boxes and an original comic box with marbles. Several of the marbles are on "off colors". These came from a store that had went out of business and were left in the building. Charles

New Marbles Listed As Vintage
moremarbles4me replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
If a seller lists a few Jabos in the vintage listing it really does'nt bother me. What I don't like is when they list 10-30 at a time. Charles -

What Am I Missing With This Auction
moremarbles4me replied to popculturizm's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Be carefull of the logo. I tried cleaning up one of my bags and the logo kind of faded a bit. Charles -
At least those are too big to swallow. Cute! Charles

Thomas Jinks made this run on his own. There was lots of aventurine and oxblood but for most part the lutz burned up. After he got home I went through I don't know 8-10 boxes with him and we found only a handfull of marbles with lutz in them. Charles

I'm guessing Joe St Clair, he signed his marbles. Charles

I sent pictures to Bob Block and this was his answer These sulphide figures were made and painted at Gibson Glass (I'm pretty sure). They were used by Gibson Glass, St. Clair, and House of Glass in Indiana. Later by Jim Davis. St. Clair usually signed his marbles, and the green flash was usually not used by him. So, I would say Gibson, mainly because I don't recall seeing that green flash in any HOG marbles or weights. Bob
