Building a Marble Machine
William replied to PittsburghMarbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Watched them all so far, lotta fun. Starting checking them out earlier this year, especially the Sand Rally seasons. I sat over at my brother in law's and started from the very first season. Without knowing the outcome of any race or the season itself, we would each choose a marble and stick with that marble until the season finale. I chose Cool Moody and he had Red #3. The wager varied according to where "our" marble finished. -

Nice. I've seen Ron and others post pics and info on some similar...I'm sure someone will be along too verify for ya 😊 -
I have a sizable chunk of landscaping here at work next to the parking lot that's in my sights. There is really nice river rock all around the premises, some spots I haven't gotten to yet. Some of the really good stuff I have I have found here 😊

I should be good at least through September and some of October....According too the extended forecast anyway 😉 A light rain would actually be ok, the agates show up alot better that way 👍

Man, I haven't messed around with my rocks for some time, except for posting a few pics. I should go picking before the snow flies!

Wish I still had my unopened bottles of soda pop. They were parting gifts from me too friends in Jacksonville, Florida back in 93' before I moved up north. They have good homes though! My favorite was an unopened 6 pack of Florida/Georgia football bottles. They made them for the famous Gator/Bulldog games back in the day. Quite the big deal back then, that game each year!

Very nice indeed 👍

Finishing off Steam Engine Days Saturday with a little snack, some stuffed peppers and bacon wrapped kabobs 😛

Here's one of her Amber rings, can't find the other one! She has a knack for sticking things in places and forgetting where (don't we all!) I like the other Russian ring better, it's got quite the unusual cut.

Decorah, Iowa; where we got it, is known for its somewhat wealthy families and Norwegian heritage. The lady we purchased it from runs an antique store out of her home, apparently alot of it is hers from her lifelong travels. Heck, this city even hosts the Norwegian Royal family once a year! The Vesterheim Museum there tells the story. 😊

They only had the ones pictured. There used to be at least a dozen of them that went through but the owner sold them to a buyer in Germany a while back. They were as big or bigger!

Nope, none at all. We do remember now that the lady we purchased it from said it was of Russian origin. Which makes sense because that is one of only a few places in the world where there are large quantities of amber deposits. Patty also has a silver ring set with a huge hunk of amber that dates from the early 20th century, around 1920, also of Russian origin.

Yep, the "Sultan of Swirls" 😁

More pics from the parade at Steam Engine Days here in Mabel 😊 Law enforcement, Mabel Legion Post 299, and area First Responders and Firefighters lead the way. My wife, Peggy, her father Clarence Remick was an original member of the Grenadiers. So proud to see that old truck still going! Pumpkins from the weighing contest, the Mabel Canton High School band, the Steam Engine Days Queen and her court along with Little Miss Mabel (my neighbor and best friends granddaughter!), and other cool stuff. Not sure if we will make it down to the Steam Engine Grounds this year or not, but if so, more pics coming!

Wow, I remember a late snowfall here in June shortly after I moved here in the mid 90's!
