My absolute favorite photographer. A college friends father that lived in Palo Alto was a best friend of Ansels. The first time I visited his home I was spell bound for hours and hours. The walls were covered in unpublished Photographs done by the man himself. "My Camera in the National Parks" is a great book of Photos and can be had on the cheap signed for around 250 dollars

hope that red and yellow has a seam, someone made a few that don't. And they have been in several collections as real. I do need a real one for my box!

A big smile was on my face while a couple wonderful friends let me acquire these Alley Agates for the collection. Also picked up the CACs on the far right (top two)at the show. Seattle is always a great time!!!!!!

I was hoping for a comment on my mention of similar pee wees. (they are Alley) but I do believe the larger ones are Champ as the did make many of the (wadded into a ball) types. Maybe a digger will chime in.

I have similar pee wees in 3 other colors.

Fantastic mib but doesn't look like the feathering associated with the gob fed types IMO.

How purple the glass gets is decided by the intensity and time it spends exposed to U.V. light. Many door knob sets have the exterior knob quite purple while the inside knob will be at the most, a very light lavender They are now using the very strong medical type UV lights to turn the glass made with "Manganese" very purple in a short time.

Red is harder to come by. And often sell for a nice premium.

There is a Marble King Hercules and the way the Pelt collectors name their marbles there could be one for all I know but it would be NLR and that looks like a later Rainbo sometimes called a baseball type.

As for the second marble it looks like something has been done to make it have a fantastic shine but I do not believe it has been machine polished. Bob, you got it, they are under surface bubbles that have been ground open and bubble pops that used to have smooth melted edges.

Look At the Pontil in your second picture first group. You will not find a similar pontil on a vintage marble. And the wide open area on the other end with the crazing look to the glass is something else not original to similar vintage marbles

Just had my brain refreshed with a viewing of a bunch of Champion purple brains

Not sure what marbles Gnome is talking about but the Champion Brains were Opaque swirls. The "wadded into a ball" marbles. Similar to this style but much more folding.

A clear layer can also be added to increase size. The most common layered vintage marbles are Sulphides that have had a layer of colored glass added to the surface. It can be very difficult to tell that the layering has been done.
