Now here is a great question. Are marbles closer to the gold or the blender in determining what they are worth tomorrow. And what are the determining factors. Of course I am already confused(LOL)

Come on now, I was getting in the Holiday spirit. My Christmas wish is no loose roaming cats, crapping in my flower beds, harassing and eating the local birds, lizards and snakes and Hollering all night long. NO I was not talking about the poor prices realized for many of Kens marbles.(to be expected when there are several hundred CACs in one auction) I was talking about the ridiculously high prices brought by a few marbles in each auction. I have been contacted post auctions by 4 different buyers asking what I believed their purchases were worth. Seeing as none of these buyers attended many if any shows and do not have a real good base of private sellers I was sad to tell them that many of the marbles were not worth any where near what they paid for them IMO. To me a marbles true worth is what can I get for it if I need cash in the next day or two. That is cash value IMO. Of course I know many private buyers so I can use this method for value. Others can only use Ebay values(which are a very wide range or auction house prices(that can be completely screwed up>

Sometimes it is new collectors with money not real familiar with what these marbles can actually be had for. That is a fact in several of the recent Morphy auctions. When they find out true value, the marbles will not be worth what they paid, for quite some time, if ever again. So it really shows that the price realized at auction is not the value of the marble except at the exact time the hammer went down. Not a minute after.

Cats are Okay, in cages or inside locked homes. And I have never been more serious. got to agree that a price brought at auction(especially ebay) for rarer items is very rarely the true value of that item other than at the exact time and place the hammer went down. It can be much lower or even higher when attempting to make a resale in a short period of time.

no they are not mine(although a few in the case were mine at one time) and I know little about them. They appear to be balls for game pieces not marbles for marble games. They are too light for marble games IMO and would not last long at all.. I have had one that was chipped up and it iappears to be a type of paint(latex??) on the surface. Yes they had metallic paints in the turn of the century. As Hansel stated the material appears to be made of a binding substance mixed with other stuff. Possibly even some small metal pieces mixed in accounting for the sparks one person saw when cutting one..

Sounds like the oil has gotten low on what at one time years ago was a well run machine. Someone dropping the ball or Are they trying to get as much as they possibly can out of each auction one way or another?? Seems these type actions would cost them a lot of bidders?

I would assume many balls were made from the patterned clay, just as many millefiori are made from the master piece. I would assume these are thinner pieces layed on a large ball. I would like to smash it to see how deep the pattern goes into the ball.

Guess it is one way to own something the artist had a small part in. As for the the comparison to CAs, thats just plain ridiculous. Beauty and rarity are what drive those prices). Of course my fellow pot stirrer was probably just doing that.
