lstmmrbls
Part of that never ending supply, Seems many have woken up but someone gets taken with every auction.
ann
First time I've heard the circus story.
Steph
The circus story is what keeps me hoping these might be authentic old-ish marbles.
bumblebee
He's sold 339 since January. Seems very odd that they thought of hand making "GUINEA" marbles for this circus. Surely he can provide a photo of the box containing what's left of these marbles? Surely there must be other evidence from the circus game? Seems like someone with that much to gain and so much energy for listing them would naturally provide such evidence to increase bids. Heck I'd buy a couple at $30 each if I had more confidence. MarbleDawg86
What about them makes one think they are contemporary? I almost placed a bid on a few of his marbles before, even had him as a favorite seller so I could keep up with his listings... That was before joining this forum and being scared off! LOL So for someone like me, who is unfamiliar with older transitionals, how do you tell the difference?
lstmmrbls
They look smell feel just like a contemporary. And one sellers never ending supply should also be a dead on give away these are being made now. Brian Graham has made many marbles just like these. Everything is wrong about them.. Pontils, glass, style etc etc etc.
greg11
too shiny and silky looking to be vintage, he has sold a lot of them.
akronmarbles
They have replicated the process quite well. It isn’t rocket science though. You can tell they are trying to mimic oxblood with their new product.
Steph
I'll try not to keep rooting for older but that circus story really is a nice touch. (:
lstmmrbls
And from the looks of many of the items I can picture some guy making them, shooting them. burying them for a while, digging them up cleaning a bit and putting them up for sale. Like so many of the cast iron toys, banks etc, being sold

bumblebee
I stand corrected: He is selling other carnival shooting gallery items that look old. Step right up and test your luck!
Steph
^^ that He has the other circus items. That was a large part of why I kept hoping it might be true.
lstmmrbls
I bet they took ebay scam lessons from the Eagle print Bennington sellers.
bumblebee
Check out the pontil on this one he sold recently. Has anyone ever seen a vintage transitional with a pontil like that? Weren't they at least ground flat? If these were true vintage, then pontils like this could only be explained by these not having been processed by the grinders/melters, right? OR, it could be that somebody did make these by hand for carnival games about 50 years ago, maybe an old marble maker, and since they were just prizes it was too much labor to mess with the pontils? The seller told me he has about 4,000 of them total.

bumblebee
Wow, interesting! Translation is rough but on the top one seems to state he wants to buy a batch of marbles made in 1995? So maybe this guy is wanting to buy them from others in order to sell them. 1995 must be important because if he is claiming they are at least 47 years old, then "from 1995" could not have meant "from before 1995" because in that is not far enough back to align with his story. In that case, ebay in 1995 was not a hot market for marbles so maybe these were used in carnivals after all?
Steph
Glass beads sold as old, by seller in Sliven http://www.ebay.com/itm/171282558828 The glass industry of the People's Republic of Bulgaria Looks like they did fancy stuff before 1944 and are doing fancy stuff again. In 1944 the market was messed up. Marbles still seem too crude for what is discussed here but there still would have been a need for beads, and where there are beads, why not marbles? lstmmrbls
They are doing handgathered types in China today for very little money due to cheap laber. So the 50s 60s communist era may have provided cheap labor also??? I ran across some very interesting material from the 50s that I will post shortly, And I may have to stop completely poo pooing these marbles as they may be from the 50s??? Still not the antiques they are being represented as. More like the "Japanese" pinch pontils. But post 16 sure looks like a brand new marble
ann
. . . what is discussed here . . . Wow -- that's an interesting link. Kinda explains a few things. Sounds like there are several 20th century time periods that could be in the running, too . . .
Gnome Punter
All of the cane type, well German type ? marbles he has look the same. The colors change but the pattern and skinny to fat are all the same. Also, they all have bubbles in them
bumblebee
I tend to assume people who buy these are victims, but in reality some of the buyers are going to go resell them to new victims at higher amounts.
lstmmrbls
Okay, so my detective work just did not pan out. I was remembering these pics from 1955 Sports Illustrated article but they just are not the same types. Okay back to thinking they are new.
