kbobam
Winnie, I'm not very fond of cherries, but it's a very attractive photo! Alyce, are you one of the 'silver' corn people? I kind of like the 'yellow' stuff, but around these parts I seem to be in a tiny minority. ( :

aleecee
I prefer the silver but I will eat any corn that is fresh and sweet. Think the kernels on the silver are a little smaller...maybe sweeter???? HUNGRY NOW

kbobam
My 'slow self' keeps trying to respond to Alyce's corn post, and other quicker writers keep beating me to the post button. In the past this has sometimes lead to my message disappearing, so I keep 'copying' it. Let me try to 'paste' it here, before responding to others. It would be so cool to be somewhere where you could pick some right off the stalk and cook it immediately. Especially if it was one of those areas that 'does dairy' and you could have freshly-made butter with it! I'm sure many of our friends in certain parts of this or other countries are laughing their tails off at me right now! But the situation has never come up. Nuts! Another thing to add to the bucket-list! ( :
kbobam
Now for the other responses. Your wife caught your dinner? It really sounds good! And as terrific a person as you've always seemed to be, there's a possibility that she might be too good for you! You lucky (bleep)! Chicken stew sounds pretty good too. And it's got to be really satisfying to 'cycle through' extra-smart planning! I have no options but mac and cheese tonight. But we're all pretty lucky when you get down to it! Steph
It's still a little warm for oatmeal, but oatmeal it is. With cranberries and almonds. Cooked in the microwave with a skim milk base. Feels virtuous. Is delicious.
kbobam
The 'skim milk base' reminded me of an interesting thought I once heard. Personally, I haven't bought any 'milk product' besides half-and-half for the past twenty-five years or so. But I've been starting to realize lately that this could possibly be because of the 'you can't teach an old fart new tricks' concept. It just seems that milk, like other things, should have a lot of fat to make it taste great! But I'm remembering now something I've heard from various respected 'chefs' and similar people. Any of the different 'fat-level' milks are sometimes the absolute best choice for preparing certain dishes. It's a question of 'balancing all the flavors' correctly! But I've been starting to realize lately that this could possibly be because of the 'you can't teach an old fart new tricks' concept. Am with you on that one. The only exceptions I make are for the occasional Heavy Cream and, around the holidays, I buy mass quantities of eggnog. Need my bag-over-the-head emo. kbobam
Egg nog is a funny one for me. I run hot and cold. Some years I don't even want to look at the stuff, and in others, I can't get enough! Ha! Just thought of something! Not all that long ago I had a 'special moment'. Was at the store and saw 'low-fat half and half' for the first time. What does that even mean? Pretty sure I literally exclaimed out loud "Oh give me a bleeping break!" People seemed to be suddenly giving me a somewhat 'wider berth'. ( :

kbobam
That's the stuff okay. But I still don't 'get' it. Low fat half and half still just sounds like a 'creative advertising' way of selling a blend of skim and regular milk. ( :

Steph
Popcorn. Plain air-popped popcorn. No butter or salt. Odd but okay. The smell reminds me of feeding the cows and pigs on my uncle's farm, but that's a happy memory. So what the hay.

kbobam
Dry popcorn and zucchini bread. In my current 'financially challenged' condition, I've mostly been eating my reserves of brown rice and black beans. But the other day I got taken to lunch, and was able to order a sandwich 'Oscar Madison' style. Pastrami on rye. Extra fat! ( :

kbobam
I'm hoping that on a Saturday night I can get away with deviating from the work-day 'iron-fist' rules around here and post in a slightly off-topic way. I'm not actually eating this right now. But I was 'thinking' about it! Just saw an ad for chicken-noodle soup. Pretty sure I haven't had any of this for forty years or so. I'm not sure what my 'problem' is. Obviously a gazillion people think it's great. And all the ingredients certainly sound good. But somehow it's always seemed like the most boring soup in the world to me. But then I thought "What about lime juice and red pepper?" I think that might work. Will have to find out one of these days. It's a really great addition to different foods at different times. And enjoyed all over the world, although kind of new to the U.S. If you're a football fan and not sure if you'd like this kind of flavoring, you can check it out easily. When you make your next 'chips run', you can now find both chips and tortillas with this great combination. ( :
