i really liked these, sort of a grouping of the colors I gravitate to, all in one purchase, & even though I had little idea of who made them, it was a "had to have " buy. Any ideas as to made any or all of them?  I don't know why the last frame won't come up,  I'll try to send one by itself, as it shows a view that is kind of diff.

Does Peltier do a diaper fold? I looked for seams in the red-on-green swirl & the only thing I could find  is a break between the upper red-yellow swirl & the swirl as it comes up from the bottom, it shows sort of mid point in the first pic. & looks like it could be a diaper seam- but even under my magnifying light I couldn't  find any other seams. Could the bottom one be a Heaton? I've sort of been trying to get Heaton sorted in my mind :dunno:

One of the traits of a so named "Peltier miller machine" marble is that they only exhibit 1 seam, Peltier did not make a diaper fold marble, diaper folds are a CAC marble. Hope this helps you Bonnie, google pics of each, sometimes I use Bing' s search engine also when I'm looking for an I.D. You have to be careful as sometimes they show the wrong marble, better to ask for some pics here or on the other marble forum. I don't have any diaper folds anymore and only about 10 or 15 CAC mibs. "Good luck" The CAC striped opaque below exhibits the diaper fold pattern, picture courtesy of my friend Terry.

I didn't think the pelt had a diaper fold, but, since I've never identified one in my marbles, I really don't know what they look like. The  marble only had what I called one seam & no other. This my be stretching my luck too far, but can it possibly be a flaming dragon (I'm always looking for a dragon, they will probably haunt me my entire marble years)?   You all agree on the one that's my favorite here. Ron are you going to weigh in here; I'd like to know where you place the center one especially....

The vast majority if not all the yellow base and red/orange Alley swirls and flames were produced at the Sistersville WV location.  The marbles that the grandsons have which they got from the factory as kids, they have zero of these.  Of all the dug marbles that I have seen from the Alley Pennsboro WV site, there is zero of these. I have seen 100,000s of marbles dug from Pennsboro  From about 25 people who has dug marbles there over 20 years. The yellow base red/orange have been dug at Sistersville. I also have a original mesh bag from the Sistersville location. It contains these yellow base red/orange swirls and flames. I can date the bag because it was when Alley, Rosenthal and Pink were partners at Sistersville for a little less than a year in 1931.  Pink had the patent on this double style bag sewn down the center. Alley was producing the marbles. Rosenthal was filling the bags.  No doubts where and when these yellow base red/orange swirls and flames were made. The yellow base can vary with some, so can the red/orange swirls and flames. Why only that one year ? That I am not positive of. But many Alley marbles are unique to only one of his different locations. Some of it has to do with cost, what is available nearby to make them with, Yellow base is easier to control and work with than white, the kids always wanted to see red, etc. It was s simple two color marble. It is always possible a very few small amount could have been made at another Alley location. But I have no doubts the big majority if not all were made at Sistersville. Hope this helps some. Sometimes a simple answer just doesn't explain it.

You will never find a original package of marbles with the Lawrence Alley, Alley Agate, etc. name on it. He did not think that he was anything special to have his name on a package.

It is much easier if we all help each other and share.  So much different the last ten years than my first ten or fifteen years.  So much more information and shared much more.  Information is more accurate and will continue to get more accurate in the future. So many more people now searching for answers.  Some old myths are being replaced, but some still won't go away just yet.  More time, more people, more information, all better.

When you say St Marys, do you mean St Marys, WV?  Curious as my marbles come from my grandparents' estate which was in St Marys, WV. It might explain some things.

The first ones look like mostly Alley and or some W. Va. swirls, the blue ones look like a mixture of 4 or 5 pelts and the other 2 blue I have no idea, the green ones I see a Christensen swirl a couple pelts some Akro it's a real grab bag, the second white ones look like at least 1 Akro and the rest master?? and the orange ones I'm not to sure but will take a guess at Alley ?? last pic (r) side top a yellow akro or pelt I can't tell from the shot, second down is a marble king and the one on the bottom (r) looks like a vitro. You've got a real mish mash there a good assortment. I know I got a few wrong, someone will chime in w/ a more accurate assessment. " well it say's please ( try ) I.D." I tried.

Lawrence Alley first made marbles 1929 in Ravenswood WV. Next he made marbles 1929-30 at Paden City WV.  Next he made  marbles 1931 at Sistersville WV. Next he made marbles 1932 in Pennsboro WV. The last place Alley made marbles 1938 was St.Marys W.V.   Which he sold this factory and contents 1949 to what became Marble King at St. Marys WV.  It burned down and Marble King moved to Paden City WV where it is in operation today.

Thanks for the info Ron Off to the folder for future reference. Lots of different mibs in those pics, I just picked out what I was reasonably secure in identifying and left the rest to someone else. Thanks again. Even if it's a repeat what better way to remember !!! Too much info is never enough.
