The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

Recommended Posts

Haven't scored in the wild for quite some time, heck Haven't been hunting in a long time. Took a road trip to LaCrosse, Wisconsin yesterday for breakfast to a little Cafe called Rosie's (@Melissa not sure if you have heard of it or been there, but I recommend!). Breakfast for 3 around $43, the plates were humongous. Great service.

Afterwards, hit a little antique mall and found these guys yelling "buy me" lol....

Added bonus was the Ball lighting jar and the 1962 tin the marbles came in...the Jim Beam decanter just caught my eye, couldn't go wrong for $2.50 on that?

First plate are all peewees....

Fun day

👍😎

Not the greatest "score" but I am quite happy and so is the guy I paid for this lot of marbles.

So many clearies and game marbles, a fair amount of cats but there are some neat marbles in here.

This is how it looked when I came in the door this morning.

Those big red and yellow ones are about 1.15 inches.

Three German and two porcelain in here but only tw are exceptionally nice. The rest are dyed clays and a few Benningtons. Cats below.

Here's after they got a bath and sorted to some degree.

I wonder what the one in the upper left is??? The white one thats shows two red stripes.

Nice mix, I would call it a score.

It's 3 marks that make it a flower I suppose, very much like this one.

Eventually that link will disappear since it is an auction lot image.

I will show a better image later. I am wiggin out at this point. Sorted em al just about and there were very few damaged bad enough to pull for the junk box.

Image one—the one I asked about, is a “Painted China” imho.
These are named after the process—“China”. They were actually made in Germany.
They come quite fancy—yours looks to be in good shape but not near the tops in design.

The one to the left just boggles my mind, the black and white one. It looks like glass but with indents involved—it is probably clay but the finish had to have been painted on—I have no clue.

There are not many Clay experts that I know of—I am not one.
Maybe @Chad G. or @bumblebee may have a clue.

Brian Graham has researched American made clays more that anyone that I know but I forgot his handle here.

I appreciate all opinions and hope to see some more.
Very cool marbles.

The “germans” need some input as well.

Thanks all for any input here.
Marble—On!!

A tiny bounce off the table surface (not enough to cause any damage) tells me it is not clay but has a glass or china porcelain feel to it.

The smaller blue and clear Germans could have been easily tossed as damaged clearies with the lack of decoration here in these which is not easy to see in hand under room lighting. The image really brought out what is going on with the design. The larger is in quite nice condition.

Went to the YMCA pool today, ( like I do every day )  same guy I bought from last week brought a small box today and I bought them. There are some nice ones in the bunch.

I washed them and sorted them and they are safe and sound but they'll be getting a further review real soon and relocated with their like kinds.

I feel I paid a fair price both last week and today. In this box I pulled out an early 1900's Zack Wheat Brooklyn Dodger Baseball pin in very nice condition and gave it back to him. It was worth more than I paid for all the marbles but I like sleeping with a good clean conscience at night. He was thrilled with the button.

Hope he finds more marbles for me.

Got em like this

Today my recent marble trader gave me this big blue bennington boulder. It is 1.5 inches in diameter. He didn't want any money. I told him it was a really nice present and glad he didn't want money. I like it a lot more this way.

So it is my biggest one so far. There is a pattern of circles there near the right bottom. Like it lay on a baking screen of some kind. Maybe in the making. I never saw that before on other bennington's or clays but it must have been baked on when it was once a softer glazed hunk of clay.

See it? One picture with flash and the other without.

Anyways, I like it.

Went back to my online auction source. There were 5 lots, I won three.

You never know what they will look like but they go cheap.

Here are the ones I won. Last night I cleaned them up and sorted them.

Got some neat marbles, some brought a tear to my eye as they were damaged but did it have to be those ones that were messed up? Over all I did real good for the money.

This is the same auctioneer who has a lot of my antiques consigned. I go down there and pick up my no sales. It's a 90 mile round trip I guess. Yesterday was ugly snow, for and rain.

I'll post my sorted images later today.

OK so that didn't take long.

Here is how they sit right now before they get mixed in with their own kind in my collection.

A cool pair of corkscrews. Just about 1/2 inch or smaller.

IMG_4984.JPG.eafa94f40b1c704e299e1bc9b8e3eb80.JPG

I think this score yielded 17 corks in all. A few unusual ones for sure.

IMG_4993.thumb.JPG.bd4abfa3ca3d52dcbd67c621ed0ba728.JPG

Down there at 7 o'clock I see a Peltier feathered slag on brown transparent glass in great shape.

IMG_4987.JPG.8fb739d2b48f45c1dab5e2006087f92d.JPG

Cats eyes were filler marbles but I like them.

Shooters and boulders and the overflow.IMG_4990.JPG.e810b8db854acb2a6592ec66bb73c48e.JPG

I made another post about these guys and Vacor ID today.

There are 5 with hits here in the corner. There were others in worse shape that are in the junk box. That sunburst shooter I think is a Master Marble and it is sad that it has a hit. It is almost OK but it sure was pretty.

Thanks!

I think it's the one pee wee of the two I posted up there.

Here I turned it and the yellow seems to be the same stripe.

This is one cool marble. One of the best in the bunch for sure. I think it is Akro and I bet it's quite scarce.

Here it lay in my hand same position.

IMG_4994.thumb.JPG.0d6655d6777dbb62c77b9a9b5d67004e.JPG

Then the next collage shows it turned. Hard to show the screw but it goes from top to bottom.
