The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

Recommended Posts

Haven't scored in the wild for quite some time, heck Haven't been hunting in a long time. Took a road trip to LaCrosse, Wisconsin yesterday for breakfast to a little Cafe called Rosie's (@Melissa not sure if you have heard of it or been there, but I recommend!). Breakfast for 3 around $43, the plates were humongous. Great service.

Afterwards, hit a little antique mall and found these guys yelling "buy me" lol....

Added bonus was the Ball lighting jar and the 1962 tin the marbles came in...the Jim Beam decanter just caught my eye, couldn't go wrong for $2.50 on that?

First plate are all peewees....

Fun day

👍😎

Not the greatest "score" but I am quite happy and so is the guy I paid for this lot of marbles.

So many clearies and game marbles, a fair amount of cats but there are some neat marbles in here.

This is how it looked when I came in the door this morning.

Those big red and yellow ones are about 1.15 inches.

Three German and two porcelain in here but only tw are exceptionally nice. The rest are dyed clays and a few Benningtons. Cats below.

Here's after they got a bath and sorted to some degree.

Image one—the one I asked about, is a “Painted China” imho.
These are named after the process—“China”. They were actually made in Germany.
They come quite fancy—yours looks to be in good shape but not near the tops in design.

The one to the left just boggles my mind, the black and white one. It looks like glass but with indents involved—it is probably clay but the finish had to have been painted on—I have no clue.

There are not many Clay experts that I know of—I am not one.
Maybe @Chad G. or @bumblebee may have a clue.

Brian Graham has researched American made clays more that anyone that I know but I forgot his handle here.

I appreciate all opinions and hope to see some more.
Very cool marbles.

The “germans” need some input as well.

Thanks all for any input here.
Marble—On!!

A tiny bounce off the table surface (not enough to cause any damage) tells me it is not clay but has a glass or china porcelain feel to it.

The smaller blue and clear Germans could have been easily tossed as damaged clearies with the lack of decoration here in these which is not easy to see in hand under room lighting. The image really brought out what is going on with the design. The larger is in quite nice condition.
